A list of retro iPhone apps that turn back the clock.
If you’re yearning for the good old days, your iPhone can take you there. While it says a lot that one of society’s most modern devices can help you relive the seventies and beyond, the range of retro iPhone apps available is not to be sniffed at. Here’s a list of 5 retro iPhone apps that are fun, creative, and timeless.
Rotary Dialer – $0.99
Rotary Dialer transforms your iPhone dialing pad into a retro rotary dialer. With five themes to choose from, the app provides you with an authentic dialing experience – including sound effects – and a backspace feature, which helps you correct any dialing mistakes.
Rotary Dialer is now compatible with Skype too, so you can make the most of what modern technology has to offer, without losing any retro charm.
Pocketbooth – $0.99
Pocketbooth allows you to create vintage-looking photo booth-style strips using your iPhone. You can customize options such as the photo effect and type of paper, time lapse between shots, the number of photos on each strip, and the border color.
As well as sharing your photo strips via email, Facebook and Twitter, Pocketbooth also has a ‘print and ship’ feature. This enables you to send professionally printed copies of your photo strips to friends and family the next business day. You can also print your photos using AirPrint.
Atari’s Greatest Hits – Free (but in-app games are chargeable)
Atari’s Greatest Hits gives you access to 100 classic Atari games. Start with Missile Command, which comes for free with the app, and purchase as many Atari games as you want. As well as single-player games, you can also take part in multi-player activities using your iPhone’s Bluetooth connection.
The different games available cost between $0.99 and $9.99, but, once purchased, you can play the games on multiple devices through your account.
Silent Film Director – $2.99
The Silent Film Director app enables you to create realistic silent films, complete with music, title cards, transitions, effects and more. Record video clips using your iPhone’s camera and choose from a variety of effects, including 20s movie, 60s home video, sepia, and black and white.
The app comes with built-in soundtracks, and you can also select music from your iPhone or computer. As well as the video filters, you can customize the speed of your clip, with slow-motion or fast playback, and the ability to reverse. Once you’ve completed your video, share it via Facebook and email, or upload it to YouTube.
Pac-Man – Free
Pac-Man’s beauty lies in its simplicity, and this doesn’t change with the iPhone version of this famous arcade game. The game has been adapted for iPhone, so you can avoid the ghosts using the touch screen, or by tilting your phone from side to side and using Accelerometer Mode. The free version comes with adverts, but you can pay $4.99 to upgrade to the full version and play ad-free.
