Swedish Police Seize Massive Piracy Server

Anti-piracy lawyer Henrik Pontén incredulously claims was the source of all pirated material available on The Pirate Bay BitTorrent tracker site.

Swedish police recently seized a server containing some 16,000 pirated movies in a raid they conducted during the high profile trial of The Pirate Bay BitTorrent tracker site. The amount of pirated material found on the server was the largest quantity ever to be discovered by Swedish police.

They say the server belonged to a file-sharing ring called Sunnydale which consisted of a total of 10 servers and together contained 65TB of copyrighted material.

“The well-organized pirates on the scene seem to have an inflated sense of their own ability to conceal themselves, but this raid shows that we can get to them,” said Anti-Piracy Agency lawyer Henrik Pontén in a statement. “Copyright applies to the internet too and we will continue to prioritize efforts to counteract these well-organized groups.”

Anti-piracy lawyer Henrik Pontén even made the very lofty claim that the Sunnydale file-sharing ring was the source of all illegal content on The Pirate Bay.

Yes, all.

But The Pirate Bay co-founder Peter Sunde refuted Pontén’s claim.

“More than 800,000 people have uploaded to The Pirate Bay, so I don’t believe it’s the source of everything,” he told Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. “But it is possible that it’s a major source.”

Regardless, the whack-a-mole game continues. Take one server down and two more will simply go up in its place.

It just goes to show that they have no idea what they are dealing with. Someone needs to give this lawyer and education on how bittorrents work. I don’t know if I should laugh or feel embarrassed for him.
