NemNemI am also getting that same error message on my brand new Windows 8 computer. I installed Java 7.0 successfully (tried 32 and 64-bit versions one at a time), re-booted, but every version of Limewire I install says “limewire needs the runtime environment 6.0 or
above”. I even ran the CCleaner program and cleaned the registry. What else can I do?

The software still works and works with Windows 8. There is a fix for using the program with Java 7. For Windows Vista and later, the program should be set to ‘Run as Administrator’. For some odd reason this improves ability for the program to connect. ie: right-click the installer and choose Run as Admin. or do the same to the installed program.

Be aware at some point in future the software will be repackaged and distributed under the name WireShare.

@Blueyes121705 Reports I have seen are that it works fine in Windows 8. But for some odd reason you need to install or update the 32-bit Java last or there are problems.
And install the Java set to Run as Admin.

@TheBlackWolf128 @NemNem Go to the Start Menu, then find the Control Panel to the right side of the Start menu. Then find the control panel called Java and open it. Then click on the Java tab, you will see the versions of Java installed. Check or uncheck the boxes to the right to enable or disable that version of Java under the user tab.

There is a way to get LimeWire running with Java 7, but it might not work for everyone. But it’s the only solution found so far. One side-effect has been found though. In that we cannot change the download location.

For anybody using LimeWire for the first time, ignore the message on LimeWire’s main window saying you are not connected to the internet. The reason is the weblink the main window previously connected to is no longer active.

What IS important is the connection bar bottom-left of LimeWire’s main screen. For LimeWire Pirate Edition, if this shows blue then you are fully connected, if it shows green bars you are partially connected. If it shows grey bars, you are not connected to the network.

@wolfapache Use the Gnutella Forum’s ‘Contact Us’ link and send an email message to one of the administrators of the Gnutella forums explaining your problem and giving them your ip address. There’s several sites you can use to find out your ip address but this is a good one http://whatismyipaddress.com/

Chances are your ip address was previously used by a multi-forum spammer and was banned for that reason.

BTW if you are using Windows 7 or later, you should install Java with the Java installer set to ‘Run as Administrator’, otherwise this will contribute to connection problems.

I am having connecting problem but when I went to the Gnutella Forms I was shocked to find out that my ip was banned where as I am visiting it the first time and have done nothing …. is it because of my country location ? Can someone help to resolve connection issue please ?

You need to go to the Java Control panel and set Java 6 as the default or active java version and disable Java 7. Unfortunately LW will not run with Java 7 at present.
It’s worse for Windows XP and earlier, you cannot have Java 7 installed at all for LPE to run.

This issue only affects all LW 5 versions including LPE, but does not affect LW 4.
