Napster is now a pay service that you have to buy music instead of downloading it for free. Sounds bad doesn't it? Well you can look at it in two ways. You can say their is better solutions than Napster and that is getting songs for free. But then you can look at what Napster does and your saftey of getting sued. Napster is supported by the RIAA so you don't have to worry about being sued. There is also some other really cool features like listening to 30 seconds of the song before downloading, seeing the full album of the song you are downloading, buying full albums is very simple, message boards, radio, etc.

Some of the features you can only get by buying the $9.99 a month plan. Some songs you can download for free but cannot burn or save to your harddrive. You can also add all your songs on your computer to your media library so you can listen to it on the media player (Which is pretty cool). So it may be worth a try for you. But if you are pro p2p then we recommend sticking to free p2p.

I love Napster - it's a great way to get those songs that are either not found in p2p, all queued up, fake, or messed up rips. Sure, it's 99 cents a song, but it's worth saving yourself a headache for those problems. And there's also that whole "not getting sued" thing .Plus, it's fast as hell - I've never reached speeds in p2p that I've reached in Napster (even from those 100 source files). However, it's not perfect - DRM sucks (if you reinstall and listen to a protected file, it counts as using license). However, you can just burn and rip the files, but that's still an extra step that p2p doesn't have.In addition, you can only get a 30 second preview - nothing sucks more then thinking a songs going to be good from that preview, buying it, and then finding out you wasted money on it. In addition, not all artists support download services, such as Linkin Park (but hey, they're already in p2p ), and other speciality songs, such as video game soundtracks, are no where to be found.

I don't want to be the only one saying it, but, we need to grow up. Jeez, the great bootlegs and concert tapes were great, but I hated the screwy, broken incompletes and slow downloads. Hey, I hate the RIAA as much as the next person, and the music exec's are a bunch of pigs protecting their trough. Having said that, I want faster downloads, higher quality and don't want to spend the night hacking around trying to get a decent quality file. I really want to see the artists getting paid for their work -- a lot of it is great and they deserve a hell of a lot more than the labels ever gave them. These people (Roxio) didn't screw Napster, the RIAA did. Where is the business model unless someone pays a fair price for what they want? This is a start, and hey, it's only a buck each -- and only pay for what you want -- not a CD full of B track junk looking for a home. This is a reasonable start. They don't deserve the dissing...
