I've been a big fan of Zeropaid for about 10 years. I used to love coming to the site and reading all the exciting news about how Gnutella was being improved upon and how P2P apps in general were evolving (AntsP2P, Freenet, etc.). The release of Zeropaid's updated Xolox app was awesome. This is where I learned about eMule, PeerGuardian, and so much else. The forums kept my interest going as well with all sorts of topics.

Nowadays, I dread going to the site. Don't get me wrong: Zeropaid still rocks. I love the site. It's the news that pisses me off. 3 strikes BS, traffic throttling, government collusion with big industry... what the hell's happened?

    I miss the good news.

We all miss those old days, but since Bittorrent came along, things changed. The forum has changed. If you look at other p2p sites, they have all changed too. I can't say I like politics much, but I still find some amusement coming here or I guess I wouldn't bother.

    Good to see ya back!

Yeah, I miss the good news too, but I like the bad news so I can stay ahead of the competition and know what is going on in the world. I'm too lazy to find my own info, so it's been a massive help to be a member here. I've never gotten a letter from my ISP, so I think some credit has to be given to what I've learned here. Both a friend of mine and my brother have gotten multiple letters, and they don't download much different than I do.

Man if everything was the same in P2P after 10 years, nobody would be here because they would be bored out of their minds. Let the new decade begin. Seriously, some of those old P2P programs were terrible!

I heard of Dogster and even saw the website for it, found through ZP. Then there was Earthstation V that was supposed to end all other programs.

Funny program names, there was an e-mail program I tried long ago called Canine Mail, because it was supposed to 'fetch' your mail I guess. It was something like Outlook Express, and I tried it, but replaced the computer soon after and didn't install it again.

Oh by the way, Mp3Pro never took off.. ;)

Here's to your Border buddy RnR.

About 10 years ago, p2p was new. Everyone was asking questions about it, there were new developments to the networks every day and there was, like, 6 different protocols and hundreds of clients.

Today, the protocols are pretty much developed as much as they can be developed, the popular clients can't exactly get a whole lot better now and everyone knows everything about p2p (or they use the search features on these forums)

Honestly, if there wasn't bad or amusing news, there'd be just about no news left on a site like this.

Things will probably pick up once ACTA fully hits the world and everyone scambles to find the next big encryption protocol, but after that... there's probably not many ways p2p could go. It could be legalised finally or the industry could finally take a hint and develop something decent. We could see some more dramatic stuff like police chases that are p2p related or things could branch into other area's like privacy related issues more and more.

I personally don't see p2p developing like it use to anymore. It might some, mainly get better and better encryption methods, but beyond that, it's doubtful much will be developed in the way of p2p.

Either way, the good news is that p2p isn't really going anywhere far. The bad news is that p2p isn't really going anywhere far.

Now if you were a police officer, and you were told to arrest someone knowing that you yourself download copyrighted material, wouldn't that make you feel dirty? Quite frankly I see a lot of controversy in the near future.

Yeah, partly why I went absent for a few years a while ago. Looks like my suggestion to have a 'legal watch' subforum came true.

Well the only things with me wrt to file sharing has been unfortunate news. I got three accounts pruned/banned for lack of activity and one tracker packed it in.
