I have used Bit Torrent for a very long time but only with public tracker sites.

I am a member of one private tracker site, thebox.bz, which is fooking class by the way.

What i want to know is, what other sites are out there like this. I know about oink, tvtorrents, and others like this. I have read that these are considered 'mid level' torrent sites.

I guess this makes mininova, demonoid etc 'low level' torrent sites.

Does this mean that 'top/high level' torrent sites exist? If so, are they like totally secret or what? What more could they offer? Faster downloads, better content.

Sorry if this has been asked before but i'm new to this site but very interested in this subject.

I don't think very much of any private tracker site. I've been with demonoid and bitsoup for about 6 or seven years and they are pretty good for some stuff. Most hard to find material are found on the warez which also provide other material. Large public trackers are very good since you will have a lot of seeders so TPB, miniNova,Isohunt and many others are at the top of my choice. I've been bumped off some private trackers after making considerable donations and I will not be making any donations to any private tracker/torrent site anymore. With so much variety and so many sources (if you know where to look) including several Russian and Chinese ftp (including private) I don't really care for any private torrent sites.

Same here. Bitsoup and Demonoid are the only private trackers I belong to. The higher level trackers I was on were just too difficult to keep a good ratio on and I was booted due to inactivity. I think it's ridiculous that people like me have to compete with people with seedboxes or generally faster connections. It's stupid and defeats the purpose of filesharing. At least I assume that there are some trackers that don't enforce an overall ratio but instead either require you to seed a file to a specific ratio OR just to seed it for 48 hours after downloading.

One thing I'll certainly admit that private trackers have over public trackers is greater privacy. Speed, too, many times, but really, how does it matter if you can just set it and go to work or school, then come back later?

So, to the OP, stick to public trackers or whatever else you got going unless you feel like the anti-piracy cops are breathing down your neck.

If you really knew about Oink you would know that it no longer exists.

Interesting stuff. I really wanted to know what sort of speeds and content these sites had. If the content is the same freeloader105 is right and you might as well use demonoid.

To be perfectly accurate, I will add this, though: top private trackers may very well have some rare, if not exclusive stuff. I wouldn't know, because I haven't moved far up the chain before it got old. Then you have a few trackers that specialize in things like textbooks. But in general, what I do infer from common sense is that public trackers like thepiratebay's or semi-private, like Demonoid, CLEARLY have infinitely more stuff available.

The only deterrent for lower-end tracker is speed. I'll even retract the argument about security. Oink was taken down, as was Elite Torrents and many others I don't know about. Speed is the only thing that counts if you want something like HD movies or 360 or PS3 games. On a lower-end tracker you may have to wait several days for something to finish downloading. But as my personal needs are music, xvid/dvix movies, and PC games, the trackers I use cover me quite well (though I do use warez for a 'quick-grab' sometimes).

Yeah, i'm in the same boat as freeloader. I guess the public trackers suit my needs. The speed is great with the box.bz but i very rarely, if ever, watch something that i have just downloaded.

I am on many private sites, over 10 for sure, and that's not counting my porn trackers. I have never used a seedbox or paid for upload, and I have never been booted off any sites. In fact, I have never even been warned. Furthermore, I have downloaded/uploaded terabytes of data and have had no problems maintaining a good ratio. I will admit a couple of the private sites I use, you must be very selective in what files you choose, but if you look for files with many leechers you should have no problems whatsoever. As for inactivity, I just make sure I logon at least once every couple of weeks or less.

That's if it does finish downloading. I've seen that on Demonoid a few times where a file gets so far and just never finishes. That is something I have never seen on a private tracker.

I'll stick to my rapidshare or megaupload anytime. Some amazing speeds and no BS or worrying about seeding or some ratio. With so many people uploading or downloading there are not too many things which will remain permanently private.:icon_thum
I have something in the order of several terrabytes of various material between my personal pc's and a few servers...and I'm happy as pig in shit!..:icon_pira

i used to use private torrent sites. like oink (when it was around), what cd (until i got side tracked from the computer for a month or two). but i mainly just use rapidshare and zshare and megaupload along with torrent sites (demonoid and piratebay)

I originally posted this in the "introduce yourself" thread, but no one replied. Guess it fits better here.

    Hi everybody,

Well here I am, a loyal visitor to the site since the year 2000 (or earlier) making my first post.

I have been participating in P2P since the days when the best P2P came from LAN parties. Love the site.

I have a question about the usefulness of 'high level' (hard to join) private BitTorrent trackers. I also simply cannot understand why the process of joining them is so drawn out and complicated. And there are so many of them...

Currently I use Shareaza, several eDonkey search sites, and http://www.completorrent.com/ to find files I want. Sprinkle in some porn from PornoRip. I have 35,000+ Mp3s, 136+ GBs of porn, lots of games... you get the picture. I have hardly ever had a problem finding/discovering anything using these methods.

As for private BT sites being faster... I have never had a problem waiting too long for a torrent from public sites. Ever.

Many say they are safer than public trackers like the Pirate Bay. So? If you use PeerGaurdian (and select some extra blocklists), you should be fine. There have only been 4 times in the last 11 years where I "got in trouble." In 2000, I got 'banned by Dr. Dre' on Napster. A few years later, I got a letter in the mail for something I shared on Kazaa. I started using PeerGaurdian and since then only recieved two letters; one in 2006 for sharing a movie while I forgot to leave PeerGuardian on, and once when I made the n00B mistake of downloading Madden the DAY IT CAME OUT in 2007.

I would like to try these sites out to see what the fuss is about, but why are they so hard to join? Here I am with tons of stuff and an awesome Verizon FiOS connection, and currently the best way I see to serve the community is to continue to share on Shareaza and seed torrents from public tackers. I routinely hit 2000-4000% upload ratios before I stop a seed on Shareaza.

Somebody school me on this issue please... I am very open minded.

I guess that's my way of saying I agree... :icon_salu

Has sharaza's torrent function gotten better? Last time I used it it was pathetic.

shawners Hurt no more my son.

No wonder you dont think much about them.. Your on two of the worst private sites in history. Bitsoup may been good at one time but they havent evolved and users on their that upload stuff without rules in place make it look trashy. Re-encoded, people who dont know how to encode movies and limited format.. and people using dvd shrink. Demonoid never was fully private and just a public tracker who lets you log in.

Some are great that let you upload your stuff, as long as you post a NFO telling people about it and split in appropriate file sizes. Speeds are blazing. Everything listed here is uploaded within minutes of being released. http://pre.scnsrc.net/index.php?cat=DVDR

Ok, this is what I don't get. Just how fast do you need your things? Do you REALLY need 0-day releases 0.00000000000000001 seconds after they become available. Even if you get it faster than anyone else, are you you really gonna watch it that second?

I don't care about BitSoup's pre-times. This is what I know: if a new release comes out that I care about, it will be available, everywhere, within a reasonable period of time, because everything leaks on the internet at the speed of light. And unless you're sitting on the edge of your computer's chair all day long, pre-time differences of even a few hours should hardly be a factor. Speeds might be another, but even BitSoup or XDCC/IRC can get a new movie downloaded in 20-30 minutes on my 6mbit connection. Which is really not bad at all, IMHO.

So that covers pre-times. As far as splitting/encoding.. that's what scene releases are for! Thought I'll grant you that some older content uploads may not be formatted or encoded properly, those are far and few between. Even on Demonoid or public trackers, a passing glance at the torrent description and user comments should do. As far as more format options, I'll also agree with you on this one. But for me, and most people, it's safe to assume that standard Divx/Xvid encoding in a 700mb AVI are more than enough for movies (especially for playback on standalone DivX players) as are high-bitrate mp3's for music.

You do get an invite once in a way from friendly members of ZeroPaid because I did a very long time ago, but you have to be a long time member and persevere.

And what is wrong in sniffing for an invite? Shouldn't the ZeroPaid Members help each other.

There's nothing wrong with asking for an invite from member to member, but there is a night-and-day difference between a ZP member and a registered user. 99% of registered users are only going to be here long enough to get an invite, and never be heard from again.
