Filetopia aims to make life a lot easier for anyone exchanging information online at home or at your sons college dorm room. To do this filetopia combines key elements needed to succeed in a productive, secure and easy file sharing environment. Check out the New User Guide to get a quick start.

Filetopia uses the Public Key paradigm for communications with the Chat Server and all File transfered among users. A public/private key pair is generated on each side of the connection and the public keys are exchanged. Thus, every connection consists of three encryption components: A Public Key mechanism, for which the Elliptic Curve algorithm is used, and a Symetric Encryptor and Decryptor for which you have a choice of ten ciphers, many of which are AES candidates.

Filetopia's Client will always be free and there will always be the basic services available for free. You might ask then: How will we be able to maintain, support and keep developing Filetopia? As with many other Internet initiatives, Filetopia only has a chance to survive if enough people use it. If Filetopia is used widely enough there will be financial support for us to dedicate entirely to enhance Filetopia. It is up to you, the user, to make it succeed by spreading the word and using it as much as you can.

Some of the features included are:

  • Collection Manager:  This lets you create lists of all the files in your collection and manage your disk files directly from that list. You can analyze your collection for duplicate files and compare it with other people's collections so as to see what you are missing or what others are missing, etc, etc.
  • Chat Client: The integrated chat client is aimed at helping you to find people with your same interests as you to share files with. Although it is not as loaded with features as regular IRC Clients, it provides all that is needed for an enjoyable Chat session and it has several key advantages. It uses encryption to ensure privacy; it is easy to use; it is not vulnerable to attacks of the kind seen on IRC and it is fast (text information does not travel through the server, but directly among users). Moreover everything you need to do to establish an exchange session with another user are fully automated.
  • File Client and Server: This is tightly integrated with the rest of the system. This component is private, secure and fast. It can recover from errors, implements dynamic block sizes, retries, auto file restoring, etc. As an added bonus it is very easy to use.
  • Messaging System: This uses the same secure channels to post messages. Consequently there is no need to be online to participate in threads related to the channels or to send private messages to users.

Due to WinMX's fate Filetopia has seen an influx of new users, in just a little under 6 hours on Thursday Sept. 22 Filetopia had an increase of over 1400 users at last look there were 6407 users online, where as normally its around 5000 users. For a long time I had stepped away from FT, due to the stall on the release of ver 4 and a couple other issues, one being with no new ver to Beta test on Support stating that his current project was with TorrenTopia, and the user base not increasing I went on to other projects. Now it seems that if the current number of users keeps growing maybe finally work will resume towards releasing version 4, the last version I had tested was ver3.04i which had several features not in the 3.04d or 3.04g people are currently using which were really nice. So if your an old hand at FT or a newbie just starting fire up Filetopia, click on Help and then Submit a suggestion or Bug report and ask when version 4 will be released. Because if you like the current Filetopia 4 is sweeter. Who knows we may cross paths on FT as I've been back there for awhile now and still OP in several channels.

Filetopia is great! I have tried many other p2p applications which connect to different networks. I think that filetopia is the best from them all. Here are my reasonsbr1.) Anonymousbr2.) Fastbr3.) You don't need to search for files, although you canbr4.) You can download entire folders not just files.br5.) There is a trading option for all you people who want to trade.brI say we all come and join Filetopia!!!img src="/images/ub/icons/ubicon2.gif" align=absmiddle

Filetopia has been around for a long time. I started using it back when Scour got shut down, and Napster was still undersiege with Metallica and the Government. The Plus sides to Filetopia is:Spyware/Adware freeNice IRC-intergation clientNice communityThe downside is that you won't find many users or files on the network,And sometimes downloading can be a royal pain in the arse. But it's certainly one of the "better" small p2p networks out there. I would say that eventually Filetopia might end up being the winner in this war against file-sharing because like one of the other users said "it hasn't fallen under the RIAA's radars yet". I believe that has to do with how it is simular to IRC than Kazaa or the old Napster. And another benefit of using Filetopia is getting really lucky and finding rare files that you would never find on Kazaa. It's worth a shot. No spyware/adware. Certainly one of the better smaller networks out there that may someday become one of the top networks. Give a shot!

I have used filetopia a while. It have some problem but a hell good client when you have learn it. Not many users yes! But that is not diffrence you get what you want if you knew how to find it. The tip is join several channels and there try to search in the channels. It's very chat friendly. You get friends there easy and start to send another files. is more info about how it works.

nothing good to say about this one. encryption backdoors, lots of server splits, unstable causing freezes, huge ram usage, too many bells and whistels, complex setup and opperation, good sales pitch bad internal politics evident from the lack of uptake, user retention, and stability since it's been out before napster.
