eMule

eMule connects to the ED2K network and purports to be a much better program than eDonkey and we tend to agree. As of today, eMule is one of the biggest and most reliable peer-to-peer file sharing clients around the world. Thanks to it's open source policy many developers are able to contribute to the project, making the network more efficient with each release.

eMule is a filesharing client which is based on the eDonkey2000 network, but offers more features than the standard eDonkey client. This client also now include a new serverless network based on Kademlia. The client is also opensource but under the restrictions of the GPL License. As of today, eMule is one of the biggest and most reliable peer-to-peer file sharing clients around the world.

Thanks to it's open source policy many developers are able to contribute to the project, making the network more efficient with each release. Started in May 2002 as an alternative to eDonkey2000, eMule now connects to both the eDonkey network and the Kad network. The distinguishing features of eMule are the direct exchange of sources between client nodes, fast recovery of corrupted downloads, and the use of a credit system to reward frequent uploaders. Furthermore, eMule transmits data in zlib-compressed form to save bandwidth.

eMule is so solid and good. It uses eD2k+KAD although one alone would build a stable network. It is perfect for bigger files like movies and files in eMule will propably be avalaible longer then anywhere else. eMule should run 24/7 if you use it, over time it shows its power.

I used eMule+ - a nicer easier interface for me but basically the same! I have found though that with Norton configured to scan all DL's that it can cause the PC to hang on shutdown for ages! VERY irritating. Otherwise it is unbeatable.

eMule is a good program, I use and develop a mod called eMule+. eMule has a great file selection, the biggest there is but it is slow because the network is constantly at 100% load.

I should add that I got poor speed until I changed my settings. There is a file you can download off E-mule on how to improve your e-mule speed and it works.

The e-mule searcher pulls a lot in. I wish it pulled in even more (don't we always?). The only reason I wouldn't give e-mule a 10 is because there isn't a detailed manual you can download. The FAQs don't cover enough - although it's relatively straightforward interface, I think a P2P newbie would be a little buried... I would have liked more of the interface and workings explained in depth.

Top Moderpotater!
eMule is a great little program for speeds and transfers. It's always helpful when I'm just looking for those rarities or the latest new single.

The selection is unbeatable - the slowness of getting what you want unbelievable. But if you're patient, you can find just about anything that you need here. Recommended for those with a spare machine hooked to their broadband - you don't want to have to leave this running forever on your main box!
