    downloading problem

I got no suggestions on my original thread on my problem of KL inability to download.

short story: I started with Kazaa (worked great), a friend directed me to KL (worked great at first). Within days downloading songs regressed. I redownloaded KL (it seemed to help). I would uninstall KL (never able to get rid of ALL files) and reinstall KL over and over for small download gains, and now nothing.

I am trying to rid my pc of everything kazaa, so that I can start over. I entered search (files and folders) and found 54 of them including hidden ones also. I have deleted all that I know how to.

    I am not allowed to delete: cd_clint.dll, data256.dbb, data1024.dbb

If I try to delete, move, rename, I get the following message:

Cannot delete (above files) : It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that may be using the file and try again. ?????

Also asks me to check if disk is full or write protected. ???

Can anyone tell me how to delete these last few files? I am running XP Prof.

Try another program like Emule 0.28a is all I can say. It's better anyway.
    Currently using eMule 0.42c

Assuming that you have already gutted everything else Kazaa related . .

Boot to safe mode, try deleting the files from there.

Another util I like is called MoveOnBoot

    It will do the trick.

You may also want to consider getting the Ontrack System Suite, as this will help with file deletions, file recovery, clean ups, you name it.

Andy, I will look into Emule0.28a

BeatFactory, I shut my computer down for another reason and when I turned it back on, the bad critters were gone? I then re-established zeropaid, since I had deleted all things kazaa, and read your reply. Hook'em

Krell, "everything else Kazaa related"? If the name kazaa was attached, it is gone. Are there "related" files w/o the word kazaa on them? I will check out your recommended utilities.

I don't know whether to go ahead and download KL or wait to see how Krell replies to "related". I will wait.

    Thanks, guys

Was I wrong to think that they were part of your Kazaa delema, or did you chose them Willy-Nilly?

    At any rate, they are gone. Y A A A !

Go ahead with KL, I see no reason not to. I still advise getting Ontrack . . . . the best 32 Mb you can download ( besides the pamela anderson video)

Krell, those three critters I listed were files that were in a kazaa folder. They survived deletion attempts. Your term "related" made me wonder if there were more distant relatives involved, with a different name.

Your Ontrack point is well taken.

    Thanks, again.

Hmm, did you try using the ad/remove programs from the control panel, or did you just delete everything kazaa?

Also, try cleaning it by this "guide"

Reinstalling kazaa should have nothing to do with download speeds, is it possible your ISP is blocking kazaa? It could be random luck if somebody is sharing when you try or not

phalkon30, the files and folders that did not uninstall I deleted. I have never used the ad/remove but in the future I have printed out and will follow your "clean install".
Last night after reinstalling kazaa I looked in "traffic" and all my previous download selections (about 50) were already there. ? Overnight, none downloaded so this morning I cancelled all of them and resumed on only one and it immediately downloaded!
I resumed on 5 or 6 more and two of them downloaded. It appears to me that asking for 50 downloads was counterproductive and overwhelmed kazaa. As you pointed out, on the 5 or 6 I resumed this morning, random luck on matching comes into play.

Maybe under the "need help" section the moderators could set up a "commonly asked questions/with answers" section, to ease the pain of answering redundant questions.

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Excelent suggestion, and we're currently working on that, but it takes time

Whenever you uninstall a program, ALLWAYS use the ad-remove programs thing, or the uninstaller that comes with the program, otherwise files WILL be left behind, and many registry keys will be left, which will eventually make windows very unstable, I know, I've done it, but you learn from your mistakes

If you're only on dialup, yes, it will be counter productive to try and download that many files at a time, the bandwidth overhead just communicating with the network to queue those files up will suck up most of the bandwidth you could use for downloading (that may even happen on slower broadband)

just an idea but I found spybot to be the most useful program around for ridding your system of all nasties. After this, try a reg cleaner. Finally, try the most recent version of Kazaalite (there seems to be two homepages or summat) the blue page without all the pop-ups is best.
