DSL: networking and bandwidth sharing

i'll be leaving college in about a week, and i plan on getting dsl back home for the summer. i plan on paying for the dsl, but i'll probably be sharing it with at least one other computer in the house.

my question is, is there a program or tool i can use to actually limit the amount of bandwidth a computer uses to a pre-set amount?

it may sound bad, but since i'm paying for the dsl, i want a little more than half the bandwidth available for my use. if, for example, my dsl service limits me to 150KB/s total downstream, is there someway i could limit one computer to say, 50KB/s ??? i dont want to limit just the bandwidth on a p2p program, i want it limited to a total of 50KB/s no matter what they are doing. that way i have bandwidth available for me no matter what the other guy's doing? does this make sense?

I was trying to do the same thing for ages to, there is a proram called bandwidth controller:

However it will only let you limit bandwidth on your network connection not on your internet connection. So any non internet transfers will be affected as well. ( at least on my config ) You can limit certain ports and protocols though. Only other problem is that you have to buy it after 30 days. Hope this helps.

Are you planning on buying a router for these computers to share yor DSL connection?

yeah, i'm prolly gonna get a 3 or 4 port hub/router or something similar to share the dsl connection. i seen one at walmart for like $30 bucks. i'm wanting something cheap.

on a side note, if you know of a good place online to buy a router cheap, ya can let me know. i wont mind :)

is there anything i can do to limit the bandwidth when using a hub/router? and is there any reason really to get a router over a hub? i'm just gonna be splittin the connection between 2 PCs, 3 max, and i will be using only one PC mostly.
