No offense, but we have this thread like every two weeks . . . it's old already.

Not as old as ESV, but close.

I was using it about 6 months before it was in stores, and haven't switched since then, its the most stable and competent OS I have ever used

Adding hardware is a snap, hard drives are even plug and play, you can boot windows, do other stuff, and automaticly in the background it finds the drive, installs the drivers, and sets it up for you, you don't have to click anything (the same goes for almost all hardware)

You just need to do some tweaking, through dissabling unneeded services you can save 30-50meg of memory on average, a bunch of hard drive space, a bunch of processor time, and it can be so much more secure

On security, they actually made it secure! (somewhat), security in 98/me was a JOKE, now you have to have some talent to hack into xp, especially on a network

XP is great if you have a decent computer, use modern software, and have little to moderate knowledge of an OS

    Simply put, it kicks ass

Best OS I've ever used, mind you that's not hard compared to Windows 3.1, 3.11, 95, NT4, 98, 98SE and ME. Only 2000 has given it "a good run for it's money". Unless you count RiscOS of course......................ah.......those were the days.....................

Here's a better question, why is 2000 better than XP? Eh? If your computer was made before the dinosaurs went extinct (the last 2.5 years or so) you're not going to notice much performance differences. I, like Phalkon (although I was afraid to admit it) have been running the same version of XP since loooong before it was in stores, it was a sigh of relief when I was using ME and I was lucky if I could get my then brand new P4 to open notepad without crashing.

I plug and play ALL THE TIME, so it's probably saved me days of setting up hardware as I would have had to do in 2000.

Also, it has msconfig, which I use almost daily, and I can set processing priority. Anyone ever messed with that? I love that! It allows me to encode a movie, and play Starcraft at the same time, otherwise I wouldn't have any power availabe and I'd get about 3 fps.
People on my "cool list" in no particular order.

Krell, Phalkon30, Ken17625, Triniti, Kyle06, Potato429, wessman, Winphuk, Woflie, MoonMan, All the mods, CCSDUDE, Lamourlady, Nasrules, Alannah777, vipp, foreverboard, NDGAARONDI, metale, isus, Endersgame21, Reg0232, notbob, Janett999, and uhh you!

i hate winxp bc of the bloatware and the huge number of mis-integrated features.

    integrated cd- burning, anyone?

i ALWAYS get coasters. or what about the wmp that you hafta pay $10 before you can rip an mp3?

windows messenger? err, no... msn messenger sucks. i have 10 people on that list, compared to 150 on aol.

i think microsoft in general is spreading itself so thin, that it just can't make any real innvoations.
