    Hacked firmware

Anyone know of any websites devoted to hacked firmware for CD/DVD writers? It's a joke that my DRU-500a can write at 4x, and only read at 2x.

It wasnt a joke when they designed it. Depreciation in the computer industry is a tough mother.

Dont believe that all firm ware updates will save your ass, the board design may not allow any significant improvements. It can also leave your hardware rendered useless. I know I found a place for a firmware upgrade for it before, on the manufacturers website. Look under their Support area.

I've got the latest official firmware. Oh well. I've got my old DVD reading drive that can rip PDQ, but it doesn't support a lot of the new DVD formats including DVD-R (most of the time).
