I was recently downloading some Mp3's on Kazaa and I came across a stange problem. Some of the Mp3's I've downloaded have completed fine, but they won't play. The strange part is, the songs are all from the same CD (The new Radiohead CD that "leaked", Hail To The Theif). I've never had trouble playing any complete Mp3's before except 1 other time when I was on a downloading spree and a set of tracks, all from the same band, wouldn't play. I didn't put much thought into it at the time cuz I didn't really care about the band. I have trouble believing that these tracks are bad, unless certain bands are trying to slow down filesharers by flooding the networks with bad tracks. Also, the files are very widespread and I'd assume someone would have made a note in one of the filenames somewhere indicating the track was bad. Maybe I'm missing a piece of software or a codec or something that would allow me to play these Mp3's? Also, I've tried playing them in WMP9 and Winamp 3. They both recognise the name of the track and the proper length, but it simply tries to play for 1 second, then stops, or skips to the next track if it's in a playlist. Nothing works.
Thanks for the help.

If you can do a simple file transfer using ICQ etc, then I want a copy for examination, PM me if you will do this,
cheers
No ICQ, but I just PM'd you with some other options, thx for the help.

What I have been able to establish is that this passes all antivirus approval. I have not viewed this in an editor, but I did view that waveform in Neros' Editor, and listend to the one second of data. I had to increase the level by a full +3db to do that.
Al of the songs contain the same block info, as I have shown here for comparison. The files sizes of the songs vary. I did not observe any additional processes running on my machine with an app I use to do that. The execution of these does not appear to launch any code.
When I first viewed the whole MP3 as raw data, it did not look like an MP3 to me, it was very shallow, almost gutted, and uncharacteristic.
My initial impression is that this is a variable bit rate botch, that some idiot is sharing out just so they can appear to share more files.
If anyone else can shed more light please feel free to do so. In the mean time, I say delete these bogus files, and move on. Also, every one please be very judicious about naming file names here.
