    primary connection trouble...

    ok so here's my story

i downloaded winmx a couple days ago. i turned it on and set everything up. i have a cable modem so i should be using primary connection...but it gives me the horrible blue screen error about a minute after i connect. Winmx will only work for me if i have it on a secondary connection....i don't know if this makes any difference. can someone help me fix this...or at least tell me what's going on?

ohh yeah..i'm using Windows ME...i suppose that could be a big problem

You can still use winmx on secondary connection (connection is less stable but not too bad). Primary connection uses a good amount of resources on you computer so i would check to see how much programs you have running in background before trying primary connection. On the ME I have heard a lot problems with blue screen of death, but I haven't had any myself (Me is my OS) with winmx or any other p2p proggie.

I have the same problem heres a post I made in Yahoo!

Hello all i've been using mx for a year or so now, and gotta say its the very best one out there. When they upgraded their software my computer started rebooting when I put it on a primary connection only it runs just fine on a secondary. I have three computers on a home network they all run xp pro. One has a Intel motherboard with a intergrated network card (1.8 with 1 gig of ram) it runs mx just fine (no rebooting). The other two computers (one is a 1.8 with 1 gig of ram and the other is a 366 meghtz with 64 megs of ram) reboots within 1-5 mins. I've tried swoping the ports and the cables around but makes no differce. So I went to bed last night and was thinking about what could be the problem and I came up with one thang they both have a Linksys ethernet cards. So if anyone has had the same problem or a linksys card with or without problems and think they can help please any would be greatly appreachated.

So was wondering what type of ethernet card do you have?

On the issue of not being able to upload, there can couple reasons, mostly firewall related. If you have firewall (software) you need map ports for TCP and UDP packets through it (use the port numbers in winmx setup). If you have router it has internal firewall (hardware) and same ports needs to be mapped. XP has built-in firewall too which might give you same problem and needs bit of tweaking.

    newest verion of winmx

the new version of winmx is definately different. I also cannot get good result on prinmary connection and I have dsl.
I did change to secondary and get super fast results, but it seems strange how primary doesn't work correctly anymore. I noted lot's of people downloading from me with very slow speeds and I can guess they are running winmx as they ran it with either previous settings or first time use.

If you want to find out your ethernet card maker and local IP address, run "winipcfg". Mine is made by Netgear and uses PCI slots.

I had a problem with WinMX 3.2 in that I kept freezing up the computer when connecting to too many "opennap" servers at the same time. But with version 3.22, the problem went away.

XP doesnt come with "winipcfg", but i think there was something on the micro$oft site to get a similar program for XP.

    ipconfig

XP does come with something similar to winipcfg, but its a command line utility.

open up a command prompt and type "ipconfig" this will display some info. theres other stuff you can do with it, too.

Alright people I figured it out its your ethernet card. I pluged a USB D-Link in and no more problems with the primary connections. So change your card and happy downloading. Good Luck :bling
