French edonkey community under pressure

It seems that a large wave of edonkey sites are closing in France. It started around april 12th when the largest edonkey file-listing site, www.edonkey-divx.com, disappeared from the web. There was some confusion at first for why the site vanished without notice. But it was confirmed that ALPA, an anti-p2p organisation has filed a lawsuit against that website. Some rumors say that there was a warrant search at the admins, and the seizure of hard drives. As a result, a large number of other edonkey sites decided to close as a precaution or declare they are in maintenance.

All the debate is whether these sites are breaking the law if they contain ed2k links to copyrighted material on edonkey. Because they dont host any illegal files, they just have links to them.

This may be only the beginning. Things are looking awfully gloomy for the future.
