i know im in the wrong place here guys, but this is the only forum i can find that will give answers reasonably quickly, and im sure since you all are experts on file sharing, you must know a thing or two about other computer functions..........I have just moved a computer into my room that I used to use........... I would like to put some files on it that are on my current computer, however, I am having a lot of trouble doing so, I tried creating a cd, using a briefcase, as well as a floppy disk, and none worked......however, there is one little problem that makes this hard........the other computer isnt hooked up to the internet.......help if you can........if not, can someone direct me to where to post this question...........thanx all........
How big of files are you moving?
What part of the process is not working (using cd, disc, etc)
Have you tried using a re-writable CD-RW to move between computers? Copy and paste to CD-RW like you would for a regular disc but with lost more room. And after you aret done you can delete files on the disc and copy some more files and move them.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".
Also . . . what O/S are they, and do they have network cards in them?
Its a simple thing to network the two, enable File and Print Sharing, and use a Cross Over Cable, that can be bought at Radio Shack.
Not having much experience with transferring software, I can't recommend any to you. But there are a plethora out there that can suit your needs.
As Krell said, a parallel cable is all you need. You will have to lay out 10 to 20 bucks for it, but it can be found at any real electronics store.
To all my freaks out there: HOLLA if ya hear me.
I can be characterized as the smartest dumbass and the dumbest smartass.
My favorite P2P apps: Ares, Clean Blubster, BCDC++, Emule Plus, Shareaza, Bittorent
first...........the files are small.........but they are important........i want to be able to play movies on the other computer, so i need my WMP 9 and codec pack at least.....all the parts dont work......at least what i have tried..........no i havent tried CD-RW's.....i only buy CD-R's (im cheap and CD-RW's arent exactly my type.......)......krell........my newer computer is Windows ME, older is Windows 95, new computer is a gateway, old is a packard bell.....if that helps.......oh yeah.......the connecting cable thing will need more explaining.....also since there arent that many files i want to excahnge, i want the easiest way out possible........(cheapest too)...........thanx..........also it is possible for me to hook the older one up to the internet (just found that out)......so if there is a place to do one of two things it would help a lot.......1. download a free version of WMP 9 (or update from 6.1)........2. excahnge the files between computers.......hopefully this will help you guys......
the connecting cable will only work if you have network cards.. though i dunno if it'll work w/ 95 even.. but i'm sure krell will answer that.. u'll have to let'em know if u have network cards for each or not.

Make a folder on your desktop.
Using Explorer, drag the files that you want in to that folder.
Launch Nero, and put in a blank CD.
In the Nero browser, drag the files in your desktop folder to the left pane, and whe you have them all, look at the bottem, make sure you have not exceeded the CD size, then click the Burn Icon at the top.
Dont try to burn a movie and data files on the same CD.
Make sure you burn this as data files.
This is the easiest way.
And dont be a cheapskate, just put the files you need on a blank CD and get on with life.
the older computer doesnt have a network card and when i tried to connect the computers last time it didnt work (sorry if i takl in circles here, but i have to consult my father on some of these topics).........so the cable idea is out .........i will search around for a WMP 9 download.....if i dont get something here first......
krell.........i made a UDF1 CD with all of the files on it............when i put this cd in the other comp. there wasnt anything on it.......so did i do something wrong with nero or whats wrong...............and before i waste CD's in trial and error i want to know what is wrong.....
. . . you befungle me, you really do.
In Nero, use the Wizard.
Chose CD > Complile a new CD > Data CD > Create a new data CD > Finish.
It should say ISO1 at the top left.
Then drag and drop.
try that
seems so simple when i do it the easy way........now.......when i put the cd in the other computer..........i get error messages when trying to open WMP9..........the messages say:
The WININET.DLL file is linked to missing export SHLWAPI.DLL:StrNCatA
and the WMP9 install icon gives me:
D:\Windows Media Player\SETUP_WM.EXE A device attached to the system is not working.
i copied the file as the whole Windows Media Player folder under C:\Program Files
all i want (again) is to play my video files on WMP9 on the older computer.......
aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggg ggggggg
*stabs self in neck repeatedly!*
. .. . . OK .. . .(checks pulse) . . . you cant just drag a folder under program files . . . to another PC, and expect it to work.
Programs have to be installed. Havent you watched when you install a program . . . what is it doing?
A setup file, using an installer . . . a BLAH.exe, will install a copy of BLAH on to your system, and make the proper registry entries.
The only time you copy a folder under Program Files, is to back up the files there.
In order to install WMP9 on your other machine, you need the original installer.
ill look another time for a disk of the installer, but i doubt i will find it.......so i guess that leaves me with the only other option of trying to find WMP 9 somewher in cyperspace.........now......the question is...........if i have WMP 6.1 can it be updated using the internet to WMP 9, because if so, i can hook up the internet on the other computer and download.........i know i can get the codecs off the internet, b/c thats where i got them in the first place...........but WMP came with my new computer, so i dont think i even have a disk......
think i found it............i will try it on the other computer, but i found a site where i can download WMP 9 for free........all on my own too (for once)
shut up about WMP 9.......its always been free....thats nothing new to us
its a free thing, always has...always will(well maybe not, being from microsoft)
and its really not hard to find
