Connection Problems after OS Upgrade - Pt 2
Ok, here is a re-hash of my troubles (and from what I have read some other peoples troubles too):
I have recently upgraded from Win98SE to W2K. Before the upgrade I was using WinMX ver 3.31 and the following software:
ZoneAlarm Free Version
Cable Internet - 256K DL / 128K UL
My searches, downloads and uploads were all fine. I did not have any problems except for, very seldom, slow connections, and I mean VERY SELDOM! Even though my DL speed is not that fast my connections were halfway decent.
Now, after my upgrade to W2K my speeds have dropped from 25K/s to <1K/s for both DL's and UL's, except twice, since March 30th, 2003. I have had one upload go at full speed and one download go at 20K/s. The DL was just last night. I figured it was fixed so I left it running all night. I checked it this morning and I had 3 uploads running at <1k/s EACH!
My main question is:
Are there any issues/problems reported anywhere about running WinMX on a W2K Pro SP3 system that would cause this slowdown?
The fixes I have done already include using CableNut to tweak my registry settings (no difference was made) and TCP Optimizer tweaks (again, no difference).
I have considered using WinMX ver 3.30 to see if there is any change so this is another question:
Can I still use ver 3.30 to access most of the functions of the current version?
If anyone wants to see my "Other" post on the other website just go here and do a "Search" for the user name of Megadeus:

These guys have their act together.
Any and ALL help is GREATLY appreciated!

Hmm, are you a primary or secondary?
It could be that you've just gotten crap uploads, try searching for some britteny spears or something like that, one that you know has a ton of sources, see how far you can max it out
If you're primary, try switching to secondary, thats very low speed broadband to be running primary, its probably sucking the hell out of your connection

Sorry, forgot to mention that. I always connect at "Secondary". I first started out connecting at that and with the great results I got I never even gave it much thought, changing to Primary.
About the searches, I have searched for the following:
Audio: Santanna,Branch, Beatles.
Video: Sex, Cum. (I do not DL these but I have seen enough results with these in the titles I thought it would be a great search term)
I do get results back from searches. They are a little slowing in showing up sometimes but mostly they are there within 10-30 seconds.

Could my problems be related to using NTFS? I opted for this due to installing a TV Capture card. I did not want to have the 4gig "file size" limit.

I highly doubt it, in fact, that should have no effect on speed at all, I use it, works great
Tried refreshing your connection? there is a button that says refresh, try that

What do you make of this:
03/27/2003 - Gnutella Applications policy changed to 128 kilobits/sec download and 64kbs up
I found this on my ISP's home page. This could be it?
Any work arounds for this?

Deffinately could be the culprit, that was going to be one of my next questions
Contact them and find out if they block winmx, if you don't want to do it from home, use a payphone or something, but I doubt they'll do anything to your connection just by calling and asking
There might not be anything you can do about it, I'm not that great when it comes to port hopping, but some of the other members will hopefully see this thread and be able to help out some

How about Mirc? Could be the change I've been looking for.

Mirc can be a great way to get files, but it can also be dangerous, you can easily get a script that will open your computer wide open to attack
If done correctly though, that may be what you're looking for, search around here for some great tips and guides for using irc
