Does Anyone Know The Steps To Record A TV Show To Your Computer

I'm starting to get into this "capper" business with copying TV shows from the TV to the computer. I already have a good idea of what to buy, but if anyone has some suggestions for me, on what to buy and how it is done, please post them here.

I have been using Dazzle video creator which just plugs into a usb port and a vcr, tv, dvd ect. Its very easy to set up and use and can be found at circuit city or even target. Its really just an external video card. Thats all ya need!!!:fire

    Thumbs up

The new conexant chipset cap cards are really nice for this, and I have actually pulled off a nice dvd master on an IBM clone! You'll have to browse around as mine did NOT come from circuit city or like that.It was a commercial piece of gear for state computers, and so I ordered it on the side.Sorry i can't be more specific.:sw

The two most popular TV cards are ATI (either an All-In-Wonder RADEON or the stand alone TV tuner) or a Hauppauge WinTV card (link)

Whatever card you buy, they're sotware should suffice, but you also might want to consider going with a 3rd party app like "PowerVCR II Deluxe 3.0" (and if you dont feel like shelling out the $130 for it, send a PM my way - its only a 15MB file for the program and crack)

Just saw this article on ZDnet about PVR's and thought it might be of interest.

Well I mainly plan to share The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, all those Fox Network comedies, but for some reason with the Dazzle Software the program crashes every time I try to record something, I'm forced to record at an extremely low quality, does anyone have a solution for this?

Don't use an external video thingy

USB doesn't have enough throughput for high-quality TV capture.

For reviews of good PCI TV cards go to http://www.tv-cards.com/

USB 2.0 has more than enough. MY capture card is the bomb! I use a dazzle external and it rocks. Cool to see one of my old posts with my old account!(look at top)

OH i know they are not the best, didnt say that but they have come along way very fast. Plus I have a kick ass overclocked videocard anyway so its an awsome duo. If you already have a good grafics card U might want to try usb, otherwise get a all in wonder ati 9700. They might only have all in wonder 8500 im not sure on that.

There is a 8500 All In wonder, and all the AIW has been pretty good over the years. But for bang for the buck shop arround. Capture cards without remote for as little as 30 US, and with remote and chipset thats decent for well under a hundred US. Where as the cheapest you can get a ATI8500 AIW is 165 US +-
And 8500 alone is available for 69 US (all pricewatch.com info)

I think the benfit of not getting a single card solution, is that you can use the capture card off the PCI or USB and still do whatever like game or download without taxing the card to it's knees. You could buy a 8500, run dual displays, and watch and capture through the TV card all at the same time. From firsthand experience, get one with a remote!! Well If your lazy like me anyway!
    Wheres the Bar?
