Need Help

didn't really know where to put this question.....so here it is.
i was ripping some cds today.
i went to rip....a cd, but it wouldn't open up in cdex 1.30.
so i went into winamp to see if i could play it.
and i can't.
what gives.

here is a screenshot of the error i received...



what could possibly corrupt the cd?
what other format could it be using to make it incompatible?
i have found a few cds that won't open up.
and it is sucking.

My first thoughts are

1) is the disc scratched at all, or dirty

2) did you reboot? (DONT throw tomatos, I have to ask)

3) have you been having any problems with Explorer?

4) if you boot to Safe Mode with the CD in, can you see it?

5) will the CD in question, play in a regular CD player, and another computer?

actually, yes i did, thinking it might help.

nope.......it's all good here.

well.....i just tried it in the stereo...and it totally rocked out! i don't have any other computer to try this on.

Well EAC might read it.
Clean it as good as you can then try EAC.

also you can try and copy the disc, not rip just copy and then rip the copied disc.

oh I meant copy with another application like blindwrite for example. blindwrite copies in raw mode and might bypass some of the ripping problems.

I seem to remember someone posting about having trouble ripping a disc by the group you mentioned. It might be copy protected. blindwrite can most likely still copy it though.

also can you delete the name of the group you mentioned please?

k.....back to Krell's question concerning "safe mode".
nope......it didn't work.
i received the same exact message as the screenshot above.

yeah....well maybe not EAC, but i'll try to copy it in Nero.
see if that works.

Ok this might work. I had never tried this so I didn't mention it before.
but iso buster might rip that cd for you. isobuster is freeware and is a utility for reading hard to read or even coruppted disc.

I just checked to see if it worked with audio cd's. It apparently does.

so that might be your best bet. blindwrite works under same principle but is shareware.


EAC is the best cd ripper btw

but, hey.......shouldn't i be allowed to make mp3's of my own cds?
say if i want to keep the original in good condition, so i copy it for use in my mp3 player, or transporting it in my car or at the gym.
wouldn't this be a "fair use" issue?
how could they just make it completely impossible to copy, whatsoever.
most anything allows u to make a personal copy, and i am not even able to do that!
this is just biting a big one!

most copy protected discs can be ripped with either blindwrite or clone cd.

sorry to have ignored responding here.
i had to be sure of the problem, which i've figured out.
since using cdex to ripp my cds i have always used the drive E:.
after not using it awhile i put the cd in drive F: to ripp, but i did not change the cd rom name to phillips.
but while fiddling around with it, i have found that certain cds will only work in drive F:....phillips.
but most will work in either.
so in the end.......i was able to rip the cd in question.
yeah..............i'm a dork.

ps...without actually ripping the cd......the way i could tell, was whether the view of tracks showed up or not.
while most would show up in either drive, the one did not.
it must have been the first one to do this, which caused my investigation and it might have something to do with drm.....but i don't know.
it is an old cd, from 1992.
did they have cp back in the day?
