this is an old windows media codec and you should not have to download anything to play it.

if you have windowws media player installed any version then you already have the codec. if for some reason you dont have the codec go to microsofts website and do a search on asf codec and they should have a download for it

    you might also try this

The thing I did to fix it, because .ASF is a valid WMP extension, was to open WMP, click on TOOLS and select OPTIONS.
When the options window opens, select FILE TYPES.
Make sure ALL the Windows Media (file, audio file, audio/video file)are properly checked and not darkened, or you'll gave to uncheck them and re-check them.
It also would help if VIDEO FILE, MOVIE FILE, and INDEO VIDEO FILE were properly checked.
I believe this will help you.

you may like to try this out for future too.
Its called AVIcodec...You just drag and drop your movie file in it and it tells you what the file needs to play, then gives you a link to get the download (codec/encoder) from. Very useful.
