    Angry WinMX Now Too Slow!

    To anyone who can help,

I just got back from a long trip and came home home to find that Winmx has been updated. The only problem is that the new version is so much slower than the prior version. I don't know what happened or if I'm doing something wrong, but before I could get downloads of 50 k/s and higher, and now all I can get is .5 k/s max even with all of the downloads working together on the same file.

If I'm doing something wrong please tell me. I have a cable modem and a pretty decent computer. I wish I could have the other version back where I could at least download a song in under 3 hours.

    Thank You!

Too many users, not enough files? More often than not, search results end up give a lot of hits on users with huge queues. The multisource would work a lot better if I could connect to more than one person at once.

I'm using the latest WinMX 3.22, and I rarely get download speeds faster than 15 kb/s. That kinda sucks but at least there a lot of rare files available.

sometimes you actually have to get down and dirty and actually go through the sources one by one, looking at them, and selecting them...a newbie cannot really see winmx's full potential, but it is definately a great program. you just have to get good at it, i have a cable modem, and i usually get speeds of at least 60 kbytes/sec...of course there are times when i actually max out my connection and go a full 250 kbytes/sec.

well, have a nice day, keep working with winmx...it and kazaalite are definately the best two out there (that i've used, i haven't really gotten into gnutella, i see no reason to...yet)

Okay, so far nobody has helped.

I too have been using WinMX for at least a year and have never, ever had a problem with finding files and getting high download speeds. I always went with the lowest pings and found a very fast download connection even though I had to look a bit to find them. I regulargly would get 60 k/s speeds and would also max out around 250 without problem. With the new system, however, I can't find any fast speeds plus it takes a lot longer to do a search and to get feedback from the download hosts.

Again, I feel like something is wrong with maybe my settings, but I haven't changed much with this version and I really never had to change much with the old version.

I hope nobody gets offended, but I'm really frustrated and wish to get back to fast downloads.

Try connecting to a secondary network rather than a primary network.

    winmx slow

Yeah I noted winmx is now slower. The previous poster gave the best advice. You most likely need to use a secondary connection. I also had fast download and when I tried the newest version it would not download as before. I think basicly winmx has made some changes that I personaly do not care for. I meesed with the settings and it is faster with secondary connections but never as fast as it was.
Oh well, maybe it will get better, maybe it won't.
I now use Imesh or kazaalite, but winmix was better at one point.

Try experienting with the settings, you might get or find better results and let us all know if you do.

It seems its a bit slower but I'm still getting reasonable speeds after playing with bandwidth throttle and upload limits. I think the slowing down has probably more do with increase in user numbers.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

I could never get a decent speed with the old version, it would always cut out. .22 is more stable for me.
could someone explain why when i restrict my uploads to 10000 i get much faster d/l 30/60 but my uploads are way to slow 1.5 2.0k/s. unrestricted it is more even 8 /10,
is there a way to get both fast d/l & uploads i really don't understand this bandwidth throttle biz in winmx.

Uh actually, it's always been too slow. I guess people are starting to see how much WinMX blows.

    Be Afraid.

While you are uploading, you are also downloading as well and vice versa, (is it to verify the accuracy of the data?) so if you have no limits on your upload or download speeds, when one is maxed out the other will slow down. You should set your maximum limits in WinMX to be about 80 to 90% of your full potential.

Here is a program you can use to monitor your upload and download traffic:
