    Corrupt Divx file

I have 2 .avi files which used to work but now don't. I've got Avifixed but it doesn't recognise them as avi files. When i try to play them in Windows Media Player this message appears:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.

I've tried playing them in Real Player and Divx Alpha player and they display similar messages. I have all the codecs. What's it's problem?

Did you have them backup on CDs?

I've got avi fixed, virtualdub and divfix. They all do not recognise the corrupt files as avi's. The files used to work.

There are more possibilities than we can shake a stick at, and your question really isnt the focus of ZP, but we will give it a go.

    What O/S are you using?

When you right click on the file to get the Properties, how long does it take for the properties dialogue box to appear? 3 seconds? 5 seconds? a minute?

Once you get the properties, I want you to write down the EXACT file size, all 9 digits in Mbits, like 735,445,882. Then I want you to see if that is the correct size for that file by doing a little research.

Last, if you have VirtualDub, open the file, and tell us what it says if you get an error.

NEVER mention the file name here, just the size, or PM us if we need more info. I hate to tell you, but sometimes, when a file gets buggered, youre just screwed unless you have burned it to CD.

    oh

    I use windows 2000 pro.

    The properties box opens immediately.

The Size is : 213 MB (223,905,792 bytes)

The Size on disk is : 213 MB (223,920,128 bytes)

Upon researching the file i've found it to be 218,658 KBs which is most probably the problem damn it.

    Please disregard this thread.
