i got a question. how do radio stations in states play there music? do they just put all the cd's in something, and for each individual song they change the disc? or do they have a computer and have mp3's in a playlist and they add the song that listeners would like the most? i wouldn't think that they would use mp3's because clearchannel who owns most of the radio stations in the country, including a few were i live, is all against piracy. if anyone here has been a dj for a radio station, or has taken a tour of a radio station, do you know how they play music?
also, are there people who stay there all night, and change the tracks, or is there a machine that changes tracks automatically.

No I will not fix your computer.
you know you should really give linux a try. you know the funny thing about the l2cache on the old pentium 2 really didnt give me the power to do the multimedia stuff that a guy like me wants to do.
It really depends on the station
My dad knows a few dj's, one of our clasic rock stations records everything in the morning, maybe takes an hour or two, sets up playlists, then everybody leaves, there is absolutely NOBODY at the station and a computer controls it all
On the other hand, our pop music station uses cds, and the occasional tape, they have somebody sit there with two decks, switching inbetween songs, I know because they complain about how much the cd players break

Basically when an artist releases an album, the record companies pick a song or two that they want to the stations to play on the air. They don't want them to play the whole album, because they want you to go out and buy it.
The corporations who pay for the commercials want only the popular songs to be played, because they attract the widest audience.

This is the reason why singles are released. They are hits on radio stations and like the other poster says it encourages you to buy the album (or single)
I believe alot of radio stations use disc jockeys. I know mostly the mainstream radio stations are watched by the music industry so I doubt they use MP3's. Well at least in my area anyways...
The disk Jockeys are just there for entertainment. I don't think they have any control over what's being played. That's left up to the program director.Originally posted by mp3radical

A radio station where i live, did not have a song requested by a listener, the song was Rico Suave (Who remembers this one?? lol)
So they just downloaded it, and played it over the air.
They openly admited they downloaded the song from napster at the time.
Needless to say, it never happend again.

a station that i mostly listen here plays hit music (in there opinion at least) like nelly, 50 cent, eminem, ja rule, jay-z, ll cool j, jennifer lopez, and a lot of teen sensations out there a lot. its the most popular station in our state because most of there audience is teenagers. it seems like they would play one song every 2 hours or so. can radio stations receive signals from car radios that let them know how big of an audience they have?

People still listen to radio ? W e i r d
I thought that was just for car commercials.
In Seattle we have THE END. The djs seem to have a lot more control over what's played than you guys say. And they admit to downloading stuff all the time, but they don't say where from. They just "got it off the internet". And there are a ot of car commercials...
No, a Car radio does not transmit anything, it is merely a receiver.Originally posted by Borgster

Yeah, but they have the best stuff around, and other stations have just as many commercials. I somtimes wonder if those ads for the Shane Company or Mitsubishi are becoming a part of my subconcuious though...Originally posted by CompuGeek
