I am going to build my own OS. However I need to know some ideas for names. Plus I want some ideas of what people want in it if people are going to like it.I also might need people to help me out not really but I don't know I will see about that later. But for now it's only in Alpha Stages I will post the site when I have one. So post your comments and suggestions. Thanks
Take a free open-sourced Unix version like Linux™ and change the little logo to be your own. Call it Dragoonix.
Can I have some Freedom™ Fries with that?
Oh man, that is the laugh I needed.. thanks.

Get a free website for your new OS at Brinkster™.com, they don't have any ads and they will allow you to use ASP.
Try starting out by just building your own browser.

not to knock you down or anything dude, but in order to compete today wouldn't you need like a team of programers or something, unless you're a genius in which case you can just disregard my question
I took the time 2 look this up cause i remembered that MoonMan took the time 2 build a little free webhost chart.Originally posted by dragoonballz

http://www.angelfire.lycos.com/
Free webhost provides 1 gig of bandwidth (data transfer) a month and others 20 megabytes of storage.
Bad Points - ads, but it lets you choose what kind and if you want a banner and 1 pop up, or 2 pop ups when you enter the page and 1 every time you click around.
Good points - VERY easy access to altering pages, offers browser ftp (you can upload on a webpage), regular ftp access, tons of tutorials and a friendly enviorment. It's what I first used
www.Geocities.com
Geocities is another big free web host and has some easy steps to making a 1 2 3 done page. Nothing special but it can start you out.
Bad Points - It's geoshitties. Geocities also doesn't support ftp access and it has that dynamic ad that is very fucking irriating. Limited bandwidth, ads, just plain annoying to upload pages.
Good points - Easy for beginners, free guestbooks, daily bandwidth limitations as opposed to monthly (that could be viewed as a bad point too).
www.FreeWebz.com
Nice webhost with no ads.
Bad Points - Very limited bandwidth, sumwhat confusing website interface.
Good points - NO ADS, cgi dns and ftp options, easy to implement counters and guestbooks, 100 megs of webspace, other things. An all around good host.
www.Web1000.com
No ads and easy sign up (no fucking catches like some of these others).
Bad Points - Mainly a PORN provider so if you type in the url wrong (ie: someone.web1000.com instead of somebody.web1000.com) you could end up at a site compused of penis pictures and fat old ladies... use caution. I was emailed a few days ago saying ads were going to be placed on the sites now (I use this provider fyi) but I haven't seen it and I recieved that email a while back.
Good points - NO ADS, ftp support, free forum, lots of webspace, UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH, etc etc.
Free domains
www.dot.tk
Very nice free domain with no catches
Bad Points - You have to wait something like 72 hours for it to be approved. Also, .tk address can be extremely slow sometimes and have some annoying dns errors (sometimes www.yoursite.tk is slower than yoursite.tk). Also you have to have something like 30 hits within 90 days so your domain isnt unregistered. Another thing, someone can buy a free domain right under you so make sure you don't register something TOO popular (ie: pokemon.tk).
Good points - VERY easy URL for people to remember, gives a more professional look, your account at dot.tk monitors your hits so its cool to check out, no ads (prior to what people think, you CAN turn them off on your user control panel at the site).
www.kickme.to
Another good site to shorten your URL.
Bad Points - URL may not work sometimes but it is usually reliable, you have to sign up for some stupid news letters (give a bogus email)
Good points - AD FREE, easy to sign up, fast
www.cjb.net
Easy to remember, reliable
Bad Points - A nasty pop up that covers the screen.
Good points - Easy, free, and reliable. Hardly ever goes down as opposed to the other two.

ill *test* ur os bro
>Does anyone know where I can get a free web-site for my OS?
If it is going to be open source then sourceforge
>I need any suggestions for stuff.
Take a look at the Reactos project, they are trying to make
a free clone of windows NT. If they can clone the driver
interfaces then it might just get somewhere in a few years.
There are half a dozen PC OS's on the web written by
individuals.
The resources needed to write drivers for hundreds of
different video/network/scsi/sound cards, the standards
association fees for the plug-n-play monitor system, VESA
etc, and the complexity of USB means that the one-floppy
written in assembler OS's generally support unaccelerated
VESA graphics modes only, a serial mouse, IDE disks
and thats about it.
How about making a hard-real-time OS for embedded use.
For embedded stuff, like controlling bottle top making
machines, engineers use dedicated boards from the likes
of Arcom with DOS,
linux or QNX. You don't need to support a huge varitity
of hardware, just serial ports really.
If windows has a brain spasm and descides to stop respond
for a few seconds then you have chicken quarters flying off
the end of the conveyor belt or the smell of burning plastic
in the air. There is a nuclear power station not a million
miles from me where some fairly important systems are
controlled from a win95 machine, they actually have two
win95 machines, a hardware watch dog and a relay that
changes between machines when they crash.
How about you go to China and get the source code that Bill Gates revealed to them, and make a Windows Clone, except make it a lot better!
People on my "cool list" in no particular order.
Krell, Phalkon30, Ken17625, Triniti, Kyle06, Potato429, wessman, Winphuk, Woflie, MoonMan, All the mods, CCSDUDE, Lamourlady, Nasrules, Alannah777, vipp, foreverboard, NDGAARONDI, metale, isus, Endersgame21, Reg0232, notbob, Janett999, and uhh you!
Source code for microsoft operating systems has been doing the rounds for years. Anything based on it isn't legal so you might as well pirate windows.
If you want a windows compatiible OS then help the wine project. The project deseratly needs an automated test system.
I've read this members other posts and I don't even think he could make toast let alone an Operating System.
Homeya15!!!!!!!

This guy just won't stop
He keeps coming back trying to fool us into thinking it's someone else.. each time he thinks of a new thing:
1. P2P program
2. OS
Hmm.. let's see, what's next?
