    windows media player 9 problems

i downloaded windows media player 9 the other day, and whenever i try to watch streaming video over the internet, or listen to a streaming audio file, windows media player says that it cannot play any items in the playlist? is there a way i can fix this? i have downloaded wmp9 before, and I have had the same problem, it didn't do this with wmp8 i had. btw wmp8 is still on my computer with a restore point i created before i installed wmp9. i am running windows xp professional, if that helps.

No I will not fix your computer.

you know you should really give linux a try. you know the funny thing about the l2cache on the old pentium 2 really didnt give me the power to do the multimedia stuff that a guy like me wants to do.

DETROIT, yeah, MusicMatch Jukebox 7.5, but I won't get into MMJB vs. EVERYTHING ELSE right now.

If you want a player that streams every kind of format available you might want J. River's Media Jukebox, it supports everything out there, and I'm being serious from mp3 to QuickTime, to RealMedia, to you name it. But before doing any of that if I were you I would back everything up, restore back to version 8 and then reinstall 9, maybe something went wrong in the installation, if it gives you the same problems just stickwith version 8 and get J. Rivers Media Jukebox.

Do you have all the latest codecs? Try cleaning out your playlist and stuff. I'd like to see a DeadAIM version of WMP that gives it more options that Microsoft conveniently forgot.
People on my "cool list" in no particular order.

For one . . . DETROIT . . go get your own damn thread, quit muddying the waters.

Borgster . . . do your basic diagnostic work. If you have a firewall, turn it off, test WMP9.

I agree with overdos assesment, Are you using the Internet Connection Firewall in XP? Is this your home PC? Or a college campus? My guess is that your firewall asked you if the new player could access the internet, and you said NO.

So which firewall DO you use?

Hopping back and forth between player versions and restore points isnt the way to go, only as a last resort.

this is my home computer, i do have a restore point for wmp8, and the old wmp6.4 version also known as mplayer2 still on my pc, so i can use that even though its basic, and not as bloated/full featured as wmp9 is. i do not have xp's firewall connection turned on, i turned it off in order to use piolet. i do not have any firewall running, i did try it with zonealarm but it still wont work. ill try it with wmp6.4 and see if that helps any.

WMP8 works, upgrade to wmp9 and doesn't,then system restore to WMP8 again=works again just fine, but now back to trying WMP9.When trying to get media guide to work it says to connect to internet and when I do this problem occurs:
Window pops up with title"Internet Explorer Script Error"
Then below in the window "An error has occurred in the scrpt on this page.
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
    Code: 0
    URL: res://wmploc.dll/Offline_MediaGuide.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
    ______ ____
    ( Yes ) ( No )
    "
No matter what I press NOTHING HAPPENS.

P.S. No internet media(launch, and other sources) works either of course.WMP8 allways works just fine with these.

I did my best to make sure they were fine, but I do understand that this is a problem like what you say,but i need to know where to fix this problem.I tried the network settings for the wmp9 and they were just the same as before and firewall was never needed to be off for wmp8 to work, but when it is off still no fix.

If you could just tell me what all to look at when wmp8 works(firewalls, routers, menus that has to do with connecting to media guide, etc).I'll make note of all of it and then change wmp9 settings to that same thing and post the solution on this post when I get this very annoying problem fixed.
