I am looking for a bit of help, i have a gateway (bastards) it runs anywhere from 40C to 50C and i know that is BAD and i would like to go about adding a fan, at this point i believe that a slot based fan that reaches in there real good will give me the best bang for my buck but if anybody could help me out it would be nice, also post your Temp if you got it
To help us out how old is the sys, and what is the cpu, make and speed? I am running a old 950 celleron, with winmx , and many transfers running. My cpu temp=26C, sys temp=22. This is just what my sys runs at. How old is the pc? Has it ever been cleaned? IE cleaned the dust out of the fans, and so on? Also has it always run this warm?

Well its a p4 1.8ghz i really dunno what its norm temp is, i just got the lil intel app that gives an estamit of the temprature. its from about october of 2001 and i guess i ought to clean out the fans lol, although it didnt look too dusty the other day when i had to get into it cuz of a NIC prob
I have done a bit of checking, and you are not anywhere near the danger range. Just wait and do not panic, things are not that bad.

From what I can find out the max temp is anywhere from 67C to 77C depending on the CPU model.

Its not too high, but cooler is better, spend the $10 - $15 to get a fan.
You need to know if the fan mount is 80mm, and notice if the power supply exhausts outward. With that in mind, you purchase an 80mm fan, and make sure you mount it with it pulling air in to the case.
Buy can of compressed air, and blow the hell out of your fans, your PSU, your board, all of it, dust is your enemy!
Also, try MBM, Motherboard Monitor, its very configurable, and informative.
Also . . Aida32 will read your sensor and tell you exactly what the temp is, plus a whole lot more.
cheers

Oops I hate when you appear like that.

Thanks for the help, this one website i checked said p4s should only run at 40C so i was unsure, + we have our whole pc stuff in stand up cabinet style case w/ no ventialation in the back :mellow
I just went and got Aida32 again, since i lost it a few days ago, but anyways it gives out the same exact reading that the intel app does so i will prolly leave the intel up since it will give out a message and beep and such if you go too hight, i would really prefer something that fits in a 5 1/2 bay, but you know these companies like gateway, they leave very little room to the imagination / add ins
No ventilation, = one hot CPU. You need air to cool, and you have no air flow. I have removed the back from my desk as it just caused problems with circulation.

Seeing as how I choked my friend Vicki for that, I will let you off with a warning . . bad bad bad.Originally posted by snowborder74

If nothing else, get you a fan in the front and leave the door open on tha cabinet, but then again, im sure you know that.
yea i know about that, sometimes i wonder if its "errors" when it restarts itself sometimes come from something in there overheating..also there is like a cardboard backing stuff in the back but my father wont let me take a big chuck of it out :(
if i felt talented i would take a pic and show you what i have to work w/....my parents say if i can find a desk that everything will fit on yet still fit nicely within the designated spot they would think about getting it, but there isnt many out there that will hold the ooddlles of things we have and still fit in this space, infact this barely holds everything i have
If you get errors, your memory might be botched up. If it is resetting on its own, it might that your PSU isn't cool enough. I had that same problem with my gateway, after having it for a year, I burned the fan out and they replaced it for free.Originally posted by snowborder74

I think anyone that leaves their comp on 24/7 and pushes their CPU to the limit 90% of the time is asking for it though, and hopefully the PSU will burn up again in the next year so I can another brand new one for free, hehe.
People on my "cool list" in no particular order.
Krell, Phalkon30, Ken17625, Triniti, Kyle06, Potato429, wessman, Winphuk, Woflie, MoonMan, All the mods, CCSDUDE, Lamourlady, Nasrules, Alannah777, vipp, foreverboard, NDGAARONDI, metale, isus, Endersgame21, Reg0232, notbob, Janett999, and uhh you!
I really hate these companies like gateway and dell, all of this so called great service goes right out the window once your warranty runs out, hell they wont even help you over the phone then they give you a pay number to call, needless to say i decided i would just format the drive befor paying 1.99/min
Thats why when i either get my own pc or my family gets a new one i am gonna build it instead of buy it like that
