    WinMX

    Hey,
I have WindowsXP Pro as OS and I have a cable internet at home. When I was running the earlier version of WinMX which is 3.1, I had no problems in downloading. As I installed their latest version (WinMX 3.22 released on Jun 24th), installation is fine. I connect fine (actually after several attempts). If WinMx is running my computer automatically gets rebooted. It could be that I am connected, or just browsing for files, or have some files in the queue, it reboots my machine randomly. I tried to uninstall WinMx 3.22 and Install it again with no success. It still reboots my machine randomly. Now, I know it is WinMX because if I dont have that running, I can browse internet, play games on internet, do my work etc.
Your help in this matter is much much appreciated.

Did you try switching from primary to secondary connection? I find the secondary connection more stable.

    Thumbs up

Hi , I agree with goweropolis although I have DSL and under connection type is suggests using primary, I found that using the secondary connection is far better, the program runs really well, no crashes or rebooting.

    WinMX

If I just select the Secondary Connection, is that enough. Or How do I go about making a secondary connection?? Are there any settings I need to make to chose secondary connection.

just select secondary connection on the network window on winmx. It should take care of it.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

Hey MickeyMan, I have DSL also. It's too bad I have to select secondary connection to maintain the stability of the program. My question is, does it make a huge difference to my ability to use the network? Even on secondary connections, I get a lot of search results, so maybe the primary connection is purely helping the network (similar to the Ultrapeer concept on Gnutella) as opposed to improving the performance of my machine.

When I used primary connection the ram resources were soaked up and I would have to disconnect then reconnect to bring this back to normal after a couple of hours, also this would make the Winmx program become very slow when moving from one operation to another. Since changing to secondary I have had no problems at all, the searches come up really quickly and if I use OpenNap servers I always get approx. 15 to 20 million file after about 10 minutes of connecting, can sometimes be slower depending on demand. My download and upload speeds are good, and I must say I have no complaints. I have also changed the TCP and UDP settings.
