    Question film quality(what can we do about it)

    i have downloaded several films of poor quality each over 1gb in size.this takes all night just to get something not worth watching.
    i have been toying with the idea of using smartripper and dvd2avi to get a d2v and sound file of about 1.2gb in size.
    from this file you can convert it to any format and quality using tmpgenc.
    surely it is better to download a 1,2gb file and change it into what you want than to download a 1.2gb file that someone has already encoded.
    if this seems like a viable idea then please let me know.
    thanks a lot.

    Video quality

    That sounds like a great idea. Could you post some step by step directions on how to do this? Also what are you using to download these movies?

    check out www.vcdhelper.com for in depth how to convert from dvd divx etc.
    if more people can do this then it might be worth waiting all night to download a file which you can turn into any quality you like?

    Afterdawn is an excellent DVD site for VCD and DivX. Very nice guides. On the site, if you get a promt asking if you are a US citizen, just say no even if you are, trust me.

    easy divx is good, but be prepaird to re-sync your film. that program is famous for not syncing right. Smartripper, DVDtoAVI, and Vertual Dub are the best bet for ripping files. Vertual dub can also take tose I.2gig files and chop them into however big you want adn will re-sync anything you need without re-encoding. I mosty rip DVD to VCD, but I have over 200 divx movies. trust me dont use easy divx its a headache.

    You can use this guide to rip to VCD. if you want to rip to a different format just repace the template (load template step) with the appropriate one. this is my website with another way of ripping also. if you need the programs they are there too and\or you can serch on google..... hope this helps.

    1. Use (SmartRipper) to rip the .Vob to your hard Drive.

    2. Open DVD2AVI

    a. Open the 1st .Vob (program will automatically select all .Vob’s)

    b. Go the Video; make sure that Forced Film is checked on.

    c. Go to File; and select Save Project.

    Open TMPGEnc

    a. Select the Video Browse button and select the rip from DVD2AVI.

    b. Select the Audio button and select the audio rip from DVD2AVI.

    c. Select the Output file name button and select a destination folder.

    a. Select the Load button and Select the Template ( VideoCD (NTSCFilm) .mcf

    d. Select the settings button and the advanced tab;

    i. Change the Video source type to Non-Interlace (progressive)

    ii. Change Source aspect ratio to 16:9 525 line (NTSC)

    iii. Then select Ghost reduction, Sharpen Edge, Basic color correction

    e. Select Start

    After the File is done

    f. From the file select Mpeg tools;

    g. Select Merge and Cut Tab

    i. Change the Type to MPEG-1 Video-CD

    ii. Then add the Mpeg file and change the (Last) window to 60:00:00

    (May need to change the minutes to adjust for size)

    iii. For the second half - 60:00:00 to end

    5. Open Nero 5.x.x.x (versions may very)

    a. Select the Video-CD option

    b. Drag and Drop the file in to Nero (if it takes longer than a few minutes to insert the file it could be incorrect)

    c. The just select burn and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!****
