What ISP do you have? some ISP's like AOL block other programs from reaching the internet if you don't have a primary screen name, so you might want to check restrictions, I'm also assuming you have dialup

Have you tried other programs like Kazaa Lite? Can anything other than Ares connect?

Sorry for the delay in somebody finding your question, this part of the forum isn't visited very often

    Try either http://k-lite.tk or http://es5.com

(ESV is known for penetrating firewalls so you may have better luck there)

Also, make sure that your ports are set correctly. Perhaps you are behind a router and the port forwarding needs to be adjusted. Kazaa works on port 80 (the same as your web browser) and ESV simply penetrates.

We dont know if that this guy HAS a firewall or not. Also, all the regular members search by View New Posts, so we see them just fine.

Please tell us the ISP, how you connect, and what is the screen name you mean, an AOL screen name or the Ares screen name?

Are you running other P2P apps at the same time?

What O/S and what if any firewall do you have?

Are you on a college campus?

    Give us the big picture.

Yo all if your still having problems with ares well so did i but i found away that seems to get it connecting again,If you have sp1 or sp2 on your windows xp go into the firewall settings even if you have it disabled in the 3 tabs at the top check through all of these to delete any Ares connection ports u can find these allow ares to have an open port to you machine allowing it to connect, after doing this disconnect your internet connection uninstall ares restart your machine then reinstall ares,Once opened it should say allow ares to config open ports say yes to this and ur soon be downloading once again :).I'm happy to be back on and downloading hope this helps you all,any other questions on this topic just e-mail i'll try and get back to you A.S.A.P :playboy :upside

I was having trouble connecting - tried to follow ur instructions chronic, but when I got to "add/remove programs" Ares is not there... So how can I ever get rid of it? Is this normal?
I'm running Windows XP SP2, and also have a router. Anyhow, I've got azureus working, so the port forwarding on the router works. I've tried to add ports in the windows firewall for ares but it's not helping. Ares refuses to keep any settings that I change, so the port has to be 24043.
ports 6881 and 24043 are forwarded on both tcp and udp at the router, and this matches the settings in Ares as far as I can see.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks, George
