I am using msn messenger inder windows xp and it keep disconecting after 2 min I've been conected. I can keep the conversation I was having while conected, but it appears that I am offline. I cannot start a new conversation too before I reconect. I saw it hapening in a mac from a friend using the same network. I believe is some network configuration and not a problem with msn.
Can anyone please help me. Thanks a lot

Which network are you refering to, and how are you connected? LAN, Dial up?
Please be more specific.
Sorry I forgot to mention that. I am using a LAN conection. This is a home computer but the apartments all sharing the same network. Let me know if you need more details to help me. Thanks a lot
Do you have the latest version of messenger?
Do other messenger clients work?
I hate to recommend more software, but maybe you could try trillian from www.trillian.cc , get the free version, and see if you have the same problems
Also, try running messenger, with NOTHING ELSE running, including kazaa, outlook, anything

this happens to me a lot, when im on the net dl'ing files or doing other stuff that hogs bandwidth... but since you're on a lan, i dunno that that would be the problem...

I used trillian and it worked fine, no problems. But I still dont know the reason for msn to disconnect. If anyone knows, could you plase help me out.
Thanks a lot
like isus said, u d'l anything, viewing any other web pages. if MSN doesn't get a response from the central messenger serves at set time intervals, it disconnects u. however seeing as trillian worked fine i doubt this is the answer. did u try installing the latest version, 5.0??
I am using the latest version of msn, and trilian also disconects after a while. But with trilian I cannot keep the conversation. I have tried also msn being the only program opened and it keep disconecting.
Anyone with same problem or solution for this??
Thanks
Can you keep anything connected? one of my friends has DSL, and loses connection every 5-10 minutes, its an ISP problem or something, but the ISP has no clue what to do with it, he just has to live with a connection issue, maybe you'll have to do the same....

Msn is a pile of shit. It keeps disconnecting and I'm going to kill it with a knife. Then I'm going to put it in the trunk of my car and ditch it in the river.
meh
I am using trillian right now and the msn on trillian keeps disconecting. Only msn tho, ICQ and Yahoo messeneger are fine. Do anyone know why this Fu.. msn keeps doing it? I am going crazy..
Thanks a lot
the MSN servers are very tempermental. if ur downloading files, then sometimes the MSN servers d/c for not replying to their commands (they check if ur still online at regular time intervals, if ur d/l on a 56k u'll take a while to reply so by that time they will think ur offline)
so a) are u on a 56k modem?
b) do u download a lot? (i think i might know the answer already to this 1)
c) are u using the latest version of trillian? (i don't use it myself so i'm no expert on it)
I once read when using some firewall applications, you may end up having this kind of trouble.
I know that Norton Internet Security does this with the messenger, you may want to check if your firewall installed on your pc is not giving msnmssg access to the web and/or maybe you use Norton ( not the antivirus one ) I am talking about Internet firewall or Internet Security or any other related security proggie that may be messing around with your messenger.
And once again that is just my opinion.

I am using a Lan connection. No firewall, no antivirus anymore, and I am using the msn without any other program...and it still keeps connecting and disconecting. actually the msn only disconnects and I have to manually reconnect...trillian reconects automatically after a while.
I did the same in my friends computer conected in another location and the same happens. Mr. Gates...can you explain that??
So you have trillian too, huh?
Well my friend I think your setting on thrillian are the ones that are messed up.
I am not sure I haven't used Trillian in a long time , but try and see your settings and see if your msn messenger is set up correctly.
For last I would uninstall Trillian then reboot my pc and then I would open up messenger and see if it works, but I would recommend you wait for Krell's or Phalkon's answers.
Then you compare our opinions and give them a shot in any order you like.
