i usually just connect to every hub from the top of the list down to somewhere in the 100 user range. i get disconnected from more than 1/2 of em due to share minimums, slot/hub ratios, being in multiple hubs, and using dc++, and for some reason (i didn't do anything wrong... maybe repeated attempts to get in with less than qualifying stats) i am banned from one or two hubs. when its all said and done, i am usually connected to ~20 hubs, sharing ~25 gigs, with 6 slots (i'd have more, but they are never filled anyway).

connecting to more than 5 hubs is wasteful and just plain rude

i'm surprised that more people don't ban you--i sure would

if you wonder why hubs ban dc++, look no further than the nearest mirror--you are it!

I always wondered why so many hub ops kick and ban dc++ users and now I know. I entirely see the logic now actually. of course, having never used dc++ I didnt know it allowed you to connect to multiple hubs.....which is really kinda dumb anyways considering many of the larger hubs connect to other hubs (someone feel free to correct me if Im wrong, Im going by what Ive seen, not something I know for certain).
hell, I used to just about live in this swedish hub that regularly connected to between 25 and 50TB depending on the time of the day. I could pretty much find anythign there that I could think of....its a shame I misplaced the address though. of course!

    Hmm

I don't see how it's rude to connect to more than one hub. It's plain logic. The more hubs, the more people you can share with and the more people will share with you.

...Don't flame me for such an ignorant question. *shields face with hands*

The way I see it if you are connected to a bunch of hubs (more than 10 for example) but have like less then 10 to slots open for downloading that would allocate less than one slot per hub. People would have stand in line for long periods to able to connect to you.

The key is balance the number hubs your are connected with the total number download slots you leave open.

Since its inception almost 30 years ago, the internet has been transformed from a primitive device for sharing thoughts and ideas, into a massive network where people pay to connect and read advertisements they don't want, while calling each other "asshats".

You have been here for a while, since the leechers arguements days, I know you will understand when I say, that connecting to a zillion hubs, when you can only rightfully provide nominal bandwidth with 6 slots, it akin to leeching.

Even if you are connected to hubs that do not kick you, you are in effect ripping people off by not being able to provide a slot for each hub. It's the greedy mentality that killing all P2P apps. I use DC++ to GET AWAY from people who do that crap on Winmx.

One day, you will get an UGLY PM from me on DC++. I will be refering to your .37kb upload, and it will involve profanity, and other injurous and insulting remarks to make you angry.

I ask you to rethink your participation on these hubs, and not make it the shithole that other P2P apps have become.

I connect to 6 hubs, share 12 slots, and thats about as low as I care to dish out my bandwidth to individuals. At that, I am connected to over 200 TB of data, sharing out 100Gb +\-

Theinfamousone, didnt you have somethig to say to scorch about sharing too many slots and NO bandwidth recently? We need balance, think of Lady Liberty with the scales, downloads on one hand, uploads on the other. Not one hand out, the other behind her back, like some welfare refugee.

Wolfie is correct, fairness in slots works, up and till a point. (nonbob)

I usually find what I need with MoSearch. Connect to that hub. start my download and stay connected for about 12 hours(average) regardless of download status. Because my broadband upload speed is kinda shit, I'll have two slots open at most so as not to give out crappy speeds. More than two usually results in one or two of the three users getting shit speeds.

Well I guess you're right. I realize that it sucks when you have to download from someone slowly. But, if you think about it, if I wasn't connected to their hub, they wouldn't get the file at all. I like the rule that you need to have atleast 1 slot open for each hub, and if all of them get full, then you should be disconnected from the hubs that you can't provide file fore. But, when I've got 65 Gigs of rare videos, I don't see a problem with connecting to more hubs until all my upload slots are full. The fact that the rarer files that I am looking for have a better chance of being found when connected to many hubs doesn't hurt either.

I only use DC++ for one hub, it's the official hub of a metal site. Chances are that you'd get kicked and made fun of within 5 minutes of entering. The rules are severe, but it is good, and works well for those who belong. That's what I like about DC, it keeps people where they belong.

I can't believe you don't remember me raving about DC++ and the multihub connections. Also, all the hubs are not link at all, some people may run several hubs and link those hubs but most of them are separtenetworks of their own basically, not too mention all the private hubs that they have that are by invitation only. Someone mentioned above about connecting to more than 5 hubs and saying that its disrespectful, I don't know about that, I think as long as you obey their rulez what do they care. Though like gorphon said most time when you connect to a hub there will be anywhere from 3TB and up and you should be able to find what ypou are looking for, but one of my favorite things about it is that the interface looks unfriendly and people who aren't really going to be sharing files tend to stay away from this software.
