Eum, you should log in with administrative acces. I thought you automatically did that if you weren't on a network. If you don't then your pc isn't configured correctly. Unfortunatly I don't know how to log on to win 98.

I had this happen to me, here's the solution:
Go:
Start > Run > Type "msconfig", press Enter.
Go to the "Startup" tab and look for "NSIS.EXE "or anything under "C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security". If I'm right, the checkbox on the left will not have a tick in it. Tick it, restart your computer and then uninstall as normal.
If that didn't help, download the linked file, RNIS.EXE. This removes every trace of Internet Security without the usual uninstall procedure. If you installed Norton AntiVirus when you installed Internet Security, get the linked RNAV.EXE to uninstall AntiVirus BEFORE you uninstall Internet Security.
RNIS.EXE: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...JMUK4/RNIS.EXE
RNAV.EXE: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...E/Rnav2003.exe
If anyone has had symptoms like System Restore, Windows Media Player and other programs not working after an uninstall of a Norton product, go to www.symantec.com and search for the relevant EXE for complete uninstall.
