the world is run by super-ducks

i have been running on Windows Me for about a year now and it has been alright (not great, but alright) i just have one question: 2 times in the past month i have needed a complete re-install and because my comp came with Windows pre-installed, i have had to take it to a shop to get this done. this means paying some to wipe out my entire hard-drive. the lat time this happened i got a message at start-up that aid "pleae wait while setup updates...setup failed to upgrade 1% from 2%". is there anything i can do if this shit happens again. i have downloaded and burned a copy of window me now but i still am unure of how to perform a re-install. Please help! Thnk you you little sweetie pies.

I don't quite understand what you mean, but you should always do a format of your hard drive before re-installing a new OS. And btw, if your pc is fast enough (more than 128 mb ram), I'd install windows XP, it's like 100 times better than me, trust me.

Btw, if you go to a shop and you have to pay them to install windows, then they should do a good job. You say you did this twice and it still didn't work? GET YOUR MONEY BACK MAN!

i know, i know, but i have never had to do a re-install before and i am a bit in the dark about it quite frankly. what happened was this: something happened where windows setup was trying to update my configuration files but then i got a message saying "failed to upgrade 1% from 2%" the guy at the shop didn't even know what this was and it just sticks on that message fail;ing to load windows. i know it's then that a re-install is needed but yeah, i don't know how to do a re-install or format as i have never had to do it before. any extra advice would be greatly appreciated, you will receive was 70 year old virgin and a bag of rice for your troubles, and not uncle ben's perverted rice, but the good kind. thank you thank you thank you

    xp xp xp!!!!!!!

get xp, youll never look back. i went from me to xp, my me crashed every few hours, ive had xp for 2 months now and how many times have i seen a blue screen? exactly TWICE. an trust me i push my comp really hard.

if you ever need to reinstall xp, you can do it without losing any of your settings with the recovery system built into the xp cd.

eum ya, I don't know how to do a format either... just do it.. LOL

    Maybe you can type: c:\format\now\you\bastard.exe
or something like that. I dunno... But I guess that if you
go to www.google.com and type in 'how to' + 'format'
you will find info on how to do it.

O yeah, and the guy at your shop, Hes a total idiot.
Who works in a pc store and doesn't know how to format properly? I'd go to a different shop!

Well, My first question is, didn't your PC come with a Recovery CD Application? If it did, all your work is done. Just pop that baby in you CD-ROM tray, and restart from the CD and follow the prompts. However, if it didn't come with that, and you want to install Windows Me, then you'll need to have a bootup floppy inorder to do a clean reformat. Now, if your PC meets minimum system requirements I recommend installing Microsoft Windows XP. I am probably the king of installing Windows, because with Me, I reinstalled around every week and a half to every month. And now with XP I like to reinstall around every 2 weeks, because of all the junk I do to my PC (although, I've now I'm trying to see how long I can go without reinstalling). To install XP, all you do is pop the CD-ROM into the drive, and reboot. The XP CD is bootable, unlike Win95-Me where you need a floopy to do it. Then just follow the prompts.

To anyone wishing to attempt a re-install......

It's easy but if your using XP or latter then this will not work, just follow these instructions on any windows computer with 98 or latter but anything XP or latter find a different post, lol. Just put a floppy in your A:\ drive then go start>controll pannel>system>startup and recovery>create startup disk then

    1. Reboot with the floppy in the drive
    2. If your computer just returns to windows then reboot, press del as it starts and change the boot order in advanced
    3. make sure you boot to dos to partition and format first
    4. forget about partitioning cause you dont seem to have any problems with the partition you have
    5. type "format c:\" press enter and tell it your sure
    6. when it's finished give your disk any name you want up to and including 11 characters in length
    7. insert your windows disk in to the cd drive
    8. reboot with the floppy in the A:\ drive again
    9. make sure it goes to dos
    10. type "D:\setup" and if that dosn't work type "E:\setup"
    11. follow the instructions and just agree with windows cause it will pretty much just install it's self.
    12. if you done all that then congratulations are in order because you have just finished your first re-install.

Good Luck!!, Oh and mastapowerful I like that Pic you have of a Pink Bear beating the Crap out of a Fragle.

    Wow are you kidding?

I didn't know it was possible to go 3 hours without ME crashing :o). I've had XP since I got my comp (that originally came with ME) and yeah, it smacks ME around like a red headed step child. At the time my computer wouldn't even boot up, that's ok, just popped in the XP CD that my friend gave me and voila, everything was ok.
People on my "cool list" in no particular order.
