Hi, I've recently been seriously thinking about buying an Apple Inc. iPod for Windows, my problem is that on the site I seem to be under the impression that the iPod only supports FireWire transfer and not USB 1.1. My questions is does the iPod support USB 1.1, and if I am forced to get a FireWire 800 port, will it be backwards compatible with FireWire 400 devices?
to my knowledge, iPods are only compatible with firewire, and yes, more than likely firewire 800 would be backwards compatible with 400

All FireWire/1394/i.Link devices are supposed to be compatible, regardless as to the speed. You will need to get a FireWire PCI card for your computer, as the iPod supports only FireWire.
tru, the ipod does NOT support any form of usb. i don't think you can just up and buy a firewire 800 card right now... i think its one of those beautiful features available only to the apple community for now. either way, i heard specualtion that apple would release a 20gb (or larger) with firewire 800 support. for when you really cant wait. haha.

you can get a firewire card at any computer related store. Or online store. But I am not sure if the 800 are there.
