    Filetopia

Why hasn't anyone continued development of this? I remember KaZaa was hacked I'm sure this can be as well.

Too many people trying to build off of BitTorrent and build cellphone apps for a fast buck I'm guessing. :\

Filetopia was a very good program, and I remember it used one of those animated Microsoft Agents. That had a great effect on me.

I TOTALLY REMEMBER filetopia. I seriously doubt that anyone would be willing to backwards engineer it. Your best bet is to convince the devs to release the source. It had so much potential. making it open source can beef up the security tremendously too. If that doesn't happen, then someone needs to get back onto the "anonymous P2P" mission like ants and waste and what not.

I agree, The only network I know of that is alive and anonymous if freenet with about 20k users and 6k at any given time. The speeds are crap though but it is secure. FT has one problem, it relied on a central server to get hosts. The file transfers were decentralized but the chat wasn't ( I had a discussion a while back with ppl on the network) I have sent the dev emails through FT and I got no reply. I was once told that the guy stopped the project in fear of legal actions ( as many other p2p..xolox..) Though FT is still up and running I believe reverse engendering wouldn't be too hard. As we have seen with Winmx. Maybe a gnutella type network with FT security. I believe we will see anonymous p2p come back when people really need it.

Right now I rely on Peerblock (peergaurdian like program) and my AVG internet security. And sadly I dont seed because I live in the states so I cannot help but leech. I Do Seed some small items ebooks and what not.

without proper source I can't imagine how we can rely on FT's supposed "security". The best thing for you to do is probably find a very private tracker. I am very curious if there is any documentation on their security though (without looking on their website cuz I'm lazy lol)

Also I have no idea why people choose to continue winMX. Though it was certainly fantastic.

WELL SHIT if they're reverse engineering manolito ( http://openlito.sourceforge.net/ ) then maybe filetopia should be worked on too. Now how do I learn how to reverse engineer O.o all I know is python/html/javascript/php -_-

Your point about security makes much sense dude. I think you would need to learn what ever code the program is in (C,Java,etc).. I remember Dr.Damn was a famous haxzor I wonder how we can get ahold of a guy like that or someone similar, Didnt ZP interview him during his K++ days?

I just moved 6 minutes outside of seattle a few months ago so my exact position's a little bit exaggerated at this point but I know people who live in samammish and kent and even lakewood and lynwood who claim they're from seattle. pshaw

It's cool, as far as we are concerned here, everything West of the mountains is "Seattle." That, and everybody here is "from Seattle" despite having spent their entire childhoods and lives here. Because cool kids ain't from small towns.
