No, Kazaa sucks.
Shure, Why not
Yes, but dont look at me to program it.
Hell YES! Why didnt anybody think of this before
Hello Linux Community,
The big question of the day is "Where is the Kazaa for linux?" Zeropaid says there is one but i dont seem to know where to look. If there isn't one would some one write us, the linux lovers, a program. that would rock. Just wanted to put that out there. - tecker.
that's not going to happen. kazaa is encrypted and as soon as someone decrypts it, they change it. who cares anyways, kazaa is going down the same path as napster.

Okay the problem is that mabye some one wouldn't hack but convince Sharman Networks to make one for linux. Sorta like Audiogalexy and eDonkey2000 where they have the command line clients for Mac and Linux/*BSD. Do you think there is a way to petition them to create one. Then others can write GUI as they see fit. Just let me know what you think.
Kazaa just might work with Wine. The installer worked with code-weavers wine [wine.codeweavers.com]. The problem is that it requires IE to run so it crashes. Everytime. The problem may lie in the fact that i am trying to run a PseudoWindows (the "windows" that comes with wine). If you could point linux to a windows partition then i believe you would be home free, or if you could copy all of the files like the documentation says. Just a little food for thought.
There used to be one. There no longer is.Originally posted by tecker

It is a long way off from dying like Napster. If it ever does ...Originally posted by smashtheqube

It is my understanding the Sharman Networks does no programming what so ever. I understand it is all done by Bailtrose Ltd (FastTrack protocol owners) for Sharman NetworksOriginally posted by tecker

Thanks for the info but how do you contact them or get a petition going to them. It would be good to ask them to consider. I think they could get maybe 100,000+ users if any one knows where to directly e-mail them it would be nice.Originally posted by wiggum

If you look at the poll you'll see that it is 3:1 in favor of not wanting a Kazaa on linux. I still cant believe this but we'll need more results than that if it realy stands that the vote is "NO!"
(p.s. if you see this go up and vote.)
There use to be a KaZaa client for Linux. I'm sure it would still work with slight modification, but the maintainers of KaZaa don't seem to think it's worth their time.
It would be so easy to get the KaZaa command line program working in Linux, that the only reason I can see that there isn't one is because Sharman doesn't want one.
Running it in Wine could be an option, but I've never figured out why it won't run ... besides I like Limewire.
One day people will get tired of KaZaa and their scamware, or RIAA's big hammer will crush them and everyone will be happy that Gnutella is there for them.
Hey to answer this it's because KaZaA needs IE to run and Wine doesn't provide that. So if you can do both rock on.Originally posted by semeniuk

gIFT used to be the hacked Linux version of Kazaa. They've have since changed their objective and are now creating their own network (called OpenFT) which will operate just like FastTrack. If you run Linux, then you should know better than to rely on a closed network like Kazaa. Use gnutella or gIFT and contribute to their development by testing their software and helping to report bugs.
giFT (http://gift.sourceforge.net/) is a great network, just not enough people on it yet. I've used it a couple times and the speeds were amazing ... hopefully it becomes more popular in time.
Open networks are the only way to go, if you don't want the RIAA ruining your fun.
ok heres a kinda stupid question, but what is linux. I mean i know its an operating system but is it on the computer or what?:fire
Check out www.linux.org. If you have ever been dissapointed by Microsoft (constant computer crashes, high prices, restrictive licensing...etc), then I think you will be pleasantly surprised.Originally posted by wesr

i wrote a paper about linux also, you can find it here: http://www.napjunk.net/~steve/itsw-1497-Linux_Paper.doc
Also, linux is not easy to master like windows is...but I have faith that you can do it.
check out www.linuxnewbie.org also for more info :)
If it was up to me, every program available in Windoze would have a Linux/FreeBSD based version.
Not only would this show up all the problems associated with Windoze, (that M$ blames on the third party programmers), but, would allow everyone to be able to break free of the Gates grip.
Never mind, if Palladium takes hold, you'll see a lot of migration to the Unix based OS and therefore a lot more software being written for multi-platform - Including a version of Kazaa.

My idea of an OS is one that operates the system, not a self contained package of every piece of software ever invented.
