I've been using uTorrent and it used to be lightweight but it just seems to get more and more bloated all the time.
Can anyone suggest anything better out there without all the crap?

Most trackers allow older versions of utorrent, and that option has been working fine for me.

Hadn't thought about staying old school.
Seems like for software, "new and improved" really means "now sucks even bigger donkey balls!"
edit: which version are you using?

uTorrent 1.8.1 - think its the latest build, but not sure till I can get home.

I think thats what I want so gonna do a downgrade from this 3.1 crapware, and I guess at installation I'll have to go into options to turn off auto updates right?

I don't think auto update is on by default, but it will say there is an update when you open it IIRC and you can just say no. Also used 2.2.1 for a while without issue after updating once, looked a little different, but performance was the same. Just installed 1.8.1 when i formatted again, since that was the install I had handy.

thanks for the input.
I went to oldapps.com where there is every old version of uT imaginable so I might try several of the old ones to find which one I like the best.

What happened to utorrent? 24MB footprint? wait what? IDK how I feel about it

uTorrent 1.8.1 ftw. but even 3 isn't all that bad, far better than some of the other clients around like vuze and tixati. i just don't like the new "health" thingy.
I stopped at 2.21. It does the job and won't be outdated for a very long time.
If 1.7-1.8 is all you use then it should be safe. These older ones don't use UDP
so their performance in my demanding environment would suffer pretty badly
There is always that one tracker admin that bans that old version of utorrent your using
tixati has a huge memory leak. I wouldn't bother with aother closed source client ask yourself what are they hiding
uTorrent is closed i think? anyway, tixati still uses way too much memory compared to uTorrent. i like the geeky look and all but they have to address the memory usage in order to compete. do that, and i'll switch over to tixati in a heart beat cause i think otherwise tixati is a great client.
