Bing sucks. Hate it.
How do I eliminate it from being my default search engine on IE8 and replace it with Google?
Hey there RandR...once again...appreciate your reply.
I didn't word my question very good the first time.
On IE when I put something in the search bar like 'used cars for sale in kansas city' it will redirect me to the Bing search engine.
What I'm wanting to do is use Google as the default search engine on IE instead.
Your instructions above simply changes my home page to Google.
Can I change it or am I stuck with Bing because it's a Microsoft product permanently attached to another Microsoft product?
Hope all is well on your island in the pacific.
OK, well take a look at this:

these days i actually find bing returning more relevant searches for me than google!
but thats just me...
Google are getting too big for their boots, gmail want my mobile phone number for verification, then they want me to supply an allternative email address to my current gmail accounts, then they banned my IP from searches on Annoyances.org, said they were receiving automated traffic from my IP, the they introduced that fuggly black navigation bar across the top of the page like someone had just died, you know what, fuck google.
Welcome back, Bluntz.
I have to say I feel the same way. They're not getting my mobile number. That would give them the power to track where you go. It's bad enough they know the content of my emails and send ads that are relevant to that content. If I talk about motorcycles, I get motorcyle ads on the sidebar, etc, etc. Fuck google is right. The problem is it's an old habit that's hard to break. I use that gmail account every day.

There are alternatives, yahoo mail for email accounts, yahoo also give you a plain white page if you want one for a homepage.

Bing is also OK for a neutral home page with different images every day, very zen like.

If your using firefox you can still use google as your first choice of search engine, just don't bother signing in. If anyone using Google as their Homepage woke up this morning to find a Blue Bar running across the top of the page imploring you to start using Google+, Firefox users can create this new rule in Adblock plus to get rid of that Blue Bar ... go to Adblock preferences, click on add filter, then type this into the new filter box ...

no more Blue Bar
I tend to prefer Google as a search provider. And always have been funny about ME being the one controlling my programs. With that said, I run Internet Explorer 9. Never have cared for FireFox. To stay on top of all the 'Add-Ons' I opened Tools (top right 'gear' icon), selected 'Manage Add-Ons'. In the Add-On Types menue I selected 'Search Providers. Bing was enabled. Right click the Bing add-on, select either 'Disable' or 'Remove'. I chose to just disable. (might have a need for it at a later date)

Hello

Nice to see you again,...yes it has been a while.

Some one at google decided that annoying its users would be a really good thing.
So, they carefully sat down and wrote a little bit of code to stick a blue bar at the top of every damn search you do using google.
And, in a special little twist they used a simple psychology experiment by asking a yes/no question which had no effect no matter what answer you gave.
Apparently if you use Chrome, you don't see it.
So, has anyone found a way to disable that damn thing?

I don't see it but I'm going to switch to duckduckgo anyway.
