Needing Help with Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for Pirate Version

Please don't pass judgment...I bought my laptop used with a pirated version of Windows 7 Home Premium on it.
I can't afford to go put some more money in poor Bill Gates pockets & buy a legit version since I lost my job a few months ago.
    So here's my set up:
Dell Latitude d830 running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 bit.
I've been unable to update the Service Pack 1 (KB976932). When I click on the install bar, it attempts to download until it ultimately ends in a failure.
I've tried this several times, having gone to download.com and a couple of other sites.

    Here are my questions:
    Why is this happening?
Do I really need this Service Pack?
What can I do to circumvent this problem and get the Service Pack installed?
Will I have additional problems by installing the SP since my copy isn't genuine?
After installing, if I get the Microsoft warning signs stating that 'I'm a victim of a fake Windows' can I download a patch to get rid of the warnings?
    Thanks.

I don't know anything about pirating Windows. However, an alternative is getting GNOME and installing Nautilus on top of it. This is suppose to be the most Windows-like open source alternative (I've used it and, while it does take some time getting use to it if all you've used is Windows, it'll work). If you have problems running Windows programs on this, try installing WINE while you're at it (if it's not all bundled already).

That solution would work (depending on how many Windows programs you've installed that are entirely Windows dependent).

Probably not the solution you are looking for, but a solution that would avoid any issues with updates and whatnot.

Find and use APUP to update your copy of Windows. RTFM and update all the components in apup.exe, then select what you need in autopatcher.exe

If you do these two things in order and update the things in black font that are required, you'll be fine.

Now earn that patch, aarrrrhhggg matey.

    Thanks for both replies.
Krell....I tried your advice and I cannot get this stupid computer to update the Service Pack.
    WHY is this happening?
All other updates downloaded with no problem.
Please keep in mind that I'm not computer literate. I need someone to break down my solution like you'd explain it to a 5 year old. I'm in my 40's and never got the education about computers and software.
Can somebody please tell me what the problem is?
I have an illegal copied version of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 installed.
I cannot get it to update the Service Pack 1 (KB976932).
What can I do to circumvent anything official with Microsoft and update this thing?

That is one of the big problems with trying to use supposed non-certified software. As the general computing public gets smarter, the corp software programers take the same info we use to counter it with the idea that you have some kind of illegaly obtained intellectual property.

It is getting harder and harder to use supposed non-authenticated legal software. Unless you have their supposed legal certificate for MS software, they are denying your ablity to download any updates to said software.

I have a licence for XP Professinal with upgrades to Security III. I have found that I have no need to upgrade to any other Windows program for my needs. That does not mean that you may have different computer needs that Windows 7 offers that XP does not.

I have found that all the upgrades after XP are for home business and unneeded programs that the average home operator does not need.

    Just saying.

Krell is the man. He's incapable of speaking like a 5 year old, so forget about it.

You could try to d/l a copy with SP1 and current updates already slipstreamed. It's not like they're not out there.

I appreciate all the advice guys.
I'll try downloading a new version with the SP1 already on it, but will I have to uninstall my current version and then install the new one?
Will that cause me to lose all my settings, and programs, etc?
I know nobody knows me on here and don't wanna come out and ask for a site to download a pirate version of 7, but can anybody tell me if there's any particular ones to avoid?
I don't want anybody with a badge to come knocking on my door just because I went to some site that's a set up and will trace my IP.
Man...I never thought it'd take me this much effort to do a simple update!

Yes, all your settings, documents, and programs will be wiped with a clean installation with sp1.

Krell's advice isn't that hard. All he was saying was: Click this, find what you're looking for, and read the freakin’ manual. Let’s hope that spells it out a little better for ya. It can work, and you get to save all your docs, settings and programs.

Remember that google is your friend. Seriously, google is your best resource for help.

    Good Luck!

Edit: DigitalJunkie just beat me to the post, but the answer is the same, mostly.

Wow R&R you should start your own tech support business!

If anyone installs the KB updates, it doesnt matter if "SP1" or "SP2" is installed or not, because all they are are the roll-ups of all the individual patches in an easy and convenient package.

The great thing about APUP is it gives YOU control over what gets installed or not. I would never update the Windows Genuine Advantage for example, that would just be stupid.

It's hella fast and and if anyone can left click a box with checkmarks, and click NEXT, then you're in the drivers seat for being updated. If not, get the hell off the computer and go do something extremely dangerous.

    Hi,

Im not encouraging anybody to use pirated software except for testing purposes maybe, and I dont want to sound like I am promoting some crack tool.

    But...

I recommend you get the Windows 7 Loader from NAPALUM

It is very handy, I used it to test out a computer (and later deleted the OS by reinstalling a genuine) and the loader allowed me to "make it genuine" and do all updates.

As always, do this at your own risk and only if you have no other way of doing it legally.
