Along with RazorLame 1.15 as an encoder.

Lame is the best mp3 encoder

For more info on lame, got to http://r3mix.net and read about lame and how it compares to other encoders. It is considered the best mp3 encoder right now and it is freeware.

Many apps use it , example, eac, cdex and I do believe audiograbber. Many more as it is open source and free for anyone to use.

    Question

I'm using EAC with Lame 3.92, and I was wondering if razorlame was better, and if so, how do I change it/uninstall what I have?

I have been getting humongous mp3's that sound perfect, and test well in Enc Spot, but do not show proper duration in Win Media Player. I've gotten winamp, but I like wmp, and like I said the files are huge (report 500k quality in wmp, but encspot shows only 200 or so.) Most of my mp3 that sound good are reported as 192 in wmp. Do you think I need a new encoder (lame)?

    **********
Also, I just ripped a cd and was unable to play the mp3's in winamp, but I *had* to play them in wmp to hear them. Winamp locked up my system, but wmp still reported wrong duration. Tested fine in EncSpot. This is the only cd that gave me this particular poblem.

lame is a command line app

lame.dll or lame.exe is a command line application and eac, cdex, audiograbber and razorlame are simply frontends to make it easier to use. razorlame however is best for using the special commands that make lame so good.
But for all intents and purposes any frontend should be fine.

As for a media player, well windows media player can be problematic. The reason winamp works so well is it is very forgiving of glitches in mp3's.

Try coolplayer , 1by1 or xmplay, all very good and freeware apps.
They are small efficient and if a file does not play well it often means it has some corrpution. One way to fix it is to re-encode it. Or sometimes the first few frames at either the end of beginning are messed up, so you can trim them off with mp3trim, also freeware. mp3trim is great for smaller mp3 files, cutting off a few frames is less than a second of time and often makes a file listenable. to cut larger mp3 files use mp3cutter, also freeware. oh by the way mp3trim can also normalise the sound, that is make it louder or softer and also you can fade in or out a track, it is very cool.

hope this helps and all files are easily found with a yahoo search.
