Unhappy Film company demanding £700 for film i did not distribute

On Saturday 25th September 2010 I received a letter from a company called Golden Eye International saying I have downloaded and distributed a film called “Ben Dover – Naughty British Babes” on 15/11/09 14:25:09 using my IP. In the letter they demand £700 to close the case against me.

I'm the bill payer for the rented premises and as a result my name is on the SkyTV bill. I can 100% confirm I have not downloaded such material personally. My living situation means I share the house with 3 people all have computer equipment, and these people all have partners who visit sometimes with computers.
In addition, one of the people living at the house on 15/11/09 has moved out.

Can you advice how I should communicate to Golden Eye International. Some forum's say ignore all correspondence as communicating with these companies makes the situation worse, others have communicated with them and ended up in occurring further threats.

I'm just not sure what to do.

Any advice will be much appreciated

It was more likely that a company called ACS:Law sent that letter, claiming to represent the film producer.
You could send a letter of denial if you like, but it's unlikely you would end up in court.

A lawyer is helping people who are being falsely accused:

    Read through this thread:

ACS:Law copyright file sharing claims, Gallant Macmillan - and probably some others along the way...

That lawyer (ACS:Law) is likely to be busy with other problems after his mistake on Friday night.

yeah, i read about that, absolutely shocking, and proof enough that these people don't deserve the power they have to sneak into peoples private space in the name of copyright infringement. also came across this little piece that shows how mafia like they really are.

I have looked over what has been going on and I agree with Helena.
If you don't respond at all they will move on to people who did.

The company name sounds dodgy. If this is the case, it could well be a rogue firm cashing in. Why you'd want to download that porno, I know you didn't but if you did, is beyond me.

GOLDEN EYE INT took a ccj against me

    Desmond,

Read your post & I've received a ccj from these clowns as well even though I'm a landlord & live in the isle of man.
In the process of getting this removed, but it's a total nightmare.
Citizens's advice bureau is a pain as you can't seen to get through to anyone.

How did you get this matter resolved?

    Regards
    Michael
