    winamp problem

ok, i've got a little problem for all you people who enjoy winamp and milkdrop...

when i try to run milkdrop, it tells me "error creating d3d device (error #887602eb)"

i looked on yahoo for something about this, but cant find anything. i restarted winamp, i restarted my comp, i deleted milkdrop and reinstalled it... still no go.

i use an nvidia gf2 mx200, with the 41.09 drivers for xp... i have tried a lot of different settings, d3d, aggressiveness... even the settings in milkdrop, but it wont work.

    any suggestions?

    hmm

not sure what the problem is but sometimes if you change it from full screen mode to just a window mode it works.
I just put it in a window and resize the window to make is as large as possible.

    try that.

Ok since noone else can help you, I will take a shot at it. Sorry if it doesn't work

First of all, try updating/installing Direct X here.

Then if that doesn't help you, try also installing VB runtime files here -> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=FH;[LN];vbruntime& (Copy that entire line that is underlined, because the VB code on this site is splitting the addy up and it won't be the right address.)

That is about all I can think of to help you, and I searched Google with your error to no avail. Good luck and report back if what I said helps or not.

well, once again windows manages to screw itself up and then fix it...

i ran dxdiag to check everything, bc moonman had mentioned reinstalling directx. well, i ran a d3d test, and it failed, the same error that milkdrop gave me, so i disabled d3d acceleration. then i turned it back on. and it worked.

    thanks for the help...

    glad you got it going.
    So you didn't re-install directX?

answer for Tremaine. Milkdrop is a visualization plugin for winamp. It's really cool, check it out.

no, i didn't hafta reinstall directx... i think i figured out my problem tho... in the nvidia settings, i can turn up the d3d memory level to 63mb, and get a significant increase in fps (in 400x300, up to 27fps) but when i restart windows, it messes up d3d. so i hafta keep it down to 31mb. only 22fps, but at least it works.

milkdrop is an awesome vis. plugin, like rickio said. i like it bc it can show the visualization on the desktop. its not the fastest way to run milkdrop, but it is nice, not interrupting your work. it also has some very nice visualizations, unique things that i haven't seen anywhere else... i recommend it to you if you want some plugins for winamp.

Milkdrop is pretty crappy compared to some newer stuff.....

Give "Punkie" a try....doesn't run off any graphics hardware so your CPU does all the work....I've gotten 45FPS on a P1 @ 166mhz at a resolution of 800x600x32 soooo anything you have is sure to kick ass with it. The beat detection is off the charts in accuracy.

Also, give Monkey a try....it has many glitches at the moment like a fucked up memory refresh (so it'll go to wire mesh then crawl till you restart it after a certain period of time) but it's cool as hell if you play classical music with it.

"Tripex3" is probably the tightest/cleanest/slickest/pro plugin I've ever seen.....and it runs at blazing fast speeds if tweaked right.

Punkie can overlay the whole desktop via a certain color and they can all go windowed.

    - screen shots - (windowed)

    1 - Monkey
    2 - Punkie
    3 - Tripex3
