How do I split a movie that is to big?
Hi to all my Night and Shining Armers. Ok I got a new problem I Downloaded Minority Report disk 1 it was pretty big to start woth. Then I had to convert it to burn it to cd. Well as you know Mpeg's are bigger then Avi's . So once I did this the file was to big to burn to my cd, and I was told that there was a way to split this to make it work. How do I go about doing this????

you need to download a program called virtualdub and its free u can get it here at this link

If I may also interject, without spoiling this precious example, please . . everyone . . in the future . . post the file SIZE and the EXTENTION, but not the name.

avi or mpg tells me something, 756,436,880 tells me something, the rest is fluff. thx

Krell can be one harsh bastard at times but I don't think he was wrong in what he said. You seem like a nice guy but you need to back off... you can't just march into a forum full of people that have been here for months and act like you own the place. Imagine this (if you will), you walk into a bar for the first time and sit down to have a beer. Someone tells you, "hey buddy, I was there first.. can you move?". I doubt you are going to flip them off and continue with your drink less you end up in the hospital with a broken jaw and nose.

Hjslpit is a good program that will split a video file into blocks (whatever size u want,i use100M) then later on you can rejoin them and share it if you want. Also are you changing it to mpeg so you can make a vcd to watch on a dvd?If not it makes no sense to re-encode it to mpeg since you can not get a better rip if your just re-ripping an avi. In fact it will degrade even more. Anyways i think u can get hjsplit at hjsplit.com but ill have to check it out as its been awhile since Ive used it. Hope it helps
And how are codecs(compression/decrompression) going to be useless in the next few years???? Thats a very broad statement, are u saying computers arent going to use math as a basis for computations? or are you meaning mpeg is going to be useless?

Okay to start off I would like to say thinks to all of you that posted to my tread that did some good. As it turned out I didn't need to download anything else becouse the program I use to convert allso splits the files to.
Next I want to say to Zero Pain and Krell I don't no what is going on between you two but I don't care much for it. It seems that every time I post something you two have gotten in to a fight over something and anything that you two can think about fighting about. Like I said in my first thread I am new at this, ok my husband got me all of this for Christmas and I am still tring to learn how to work all of it. And if there is going to be a fight everytime I post then I well find some were else to post at, because to tell you the truth I do not have time to come over here and check me e-mail only to find that you two are fighting and anything you are saying dose not help me at all. Hell guys I have Three kids two being 5 month old twins. SO if you think I have time for all this shit you are wrong. So please keep all this heart ack to your selfs and save it for another rainny day, and if you are going to reply try to keep it set at what you are going to reply to, or like I said I well find some were else to go and I really don't want to do that becouse in the long run you have helped me.
