I was thinking of firing this baby up the other day! But I did not do it. I do not have the time anymore and everyone knows or should know that Winmx is a social network. Way ahead of its time but people have not discovered it yet. I think it still works and when I do sign on, not much lately at all, I can still find people I have been talking to for over 6 years. Some much longer and they still hang out, chat and swap files. The speeds are very nice now and if you can find a social group that like the same movies or songs you like you can rack up on some good shit!
Winmx sure could stand an update! Years back but soon after Winmx almost got shut down there were some programmers talking about they would provide an update for the community but I never heard anymore about that. There needs to be an easier way to change what types of files you can share. You have to type in some of the newer file extensions ad then re-scan your computer to get it to work.
With some PR work and perhaps a new GUI Winmx could become a GREAT sharing social network. There is a good user base already installed with lots of files. Lots of chat rooms already set up that you can become members of and get priority downloads. With todays upload speeds you friends can now send movies much faster than before which helps Winmx's performance tremendously but you can tell Winmx was never built for these speeds because the amount of overhead that gets chewed up by Winmx is unbelievable. I have to wonder why this is but if there was a revision something must be done about the packet checking so we can speed things up! But no update will ever happen and it sucks! This program is one of the LAST links to the golden age of my filesharing experience! You can still hook up to open nap for Old Greg's sake! I am just daydreaming is all...
