okay first off sorry if i didnt put this in the right place, havent been part of a forum since higschool and that was 4 or 5 years ago, okay im pretty new to P2P and the like and ill tell you my downloads seem slow, and i have no clue why and im talking DAYS slow like ill wait five days or something, is it because i use limewire??? what should i use, what is this newsgroup and where do i go? how about the fast track network?? what is it and where do i go for that? and are they better than iso hunt??? Any tips for a newbie who barely knows anything about this stuff??? also im brand new to this site and i have to say i think this site is pretty nifty...so I guess Hello everyone. Oh and one more question will i get a notice for downloading excessively if im using wifi and on someone elses internet, or will they??? Thanks for your time.
I'm sure other people here can explain this better or may possibly have a better answer for you. However, if you're using Limewire for torrents, I would change to uTorrent asap. Next you'll have to make sure it's configured properly, including port forwarding. youtube has some great tutorials on this. IMO, Limewire is a virus waiting to happen, unless you're very very careful. Just get rid of it. Soulseek is a good alternative to Limewire, but again, portforwarding is needed if you have a router. Please feel free to ask other questions, if needed, but do try to find answers on your own too. Youtube and Google should prove very useful in setting up this programs.

Piggybacking on somebody else's WiFi is a good way to get some criminal charges leveled against you. Possible charges include theft, invasion of privacy, trespass, and added on to any of these, crime committed using a computer. Copyright infringement notices would be the least of your worries. You're better off using your own connection and learning how to cover your tracks better.

I just wanted to pipe in and say that downloading excessively on some one else wi-fi is really a douche-bag maneuver. If you really need some small download then I guess you can justify it, but P2P downloads is the quickest way to kill some one's internet connection. That's not right to do if you don't have an arrangement with them.
It's still wrong, but I don't see a problem with standard web browsing on another's wi-fi. Most internet connections are fast enough to handle far more than the heavy users can throw at it. It's the downloads that really are a concern.
the guys have covered everything 100% just want to add that while it isn't good to steal blah, blah, blah, anyone idiot enough not to secure their wi-fi network needs to be taught a lesson for their own good. for heavens' sake it's not rocket science. RTFM!!

This whole thread seems to be about one thing really, thinking and making the right choices. Like Limewire. You could probably get away with using it to get music, but it's not a great noob program.
Better to start with a torrent program and find an uploader that you like their stuff, and who has a good rep and go for their stuff. Soulseek needs more users, that's a music program all the way.
Wifi, again it's about using your brain. I know others who have file shared over it, and I have too, at a time I didn't have high speed net. Pirating wi-fi brought me entertainment that was valuable at the time because it made me happy, that movie or whatever. I really thank the people whose wi-fi I used, even though they will never know who it is that's thanking them. It really means something to me that your connection was out there.
It might not be the best idea, but there are ways to share files over pirate wi-fi, like doing it over night when most people are sleeping and watching your download and upload speeds, and I mean closely. If your program is set for max speed and you try to get 10 movies at once, you'll likely overload and slow THEIR connection down, and you will never know, and they will probably just shut down the transmitter on you.
If you're thinking to use wi-fi just to stay away from media companies, well it's probably not the BEST reason to do it. Now if you are poor, can't get high speed net where you live, in a temporary location, go to it but give it respect. Boomer's opinion.[/FONT]
nah i AM bumming internet off someone who doesnt know it, and YES i do download stuff over their wifi not enough for them to really even know or they more than likely would of noticed and put a password on, i only really download an episode of my fav tv show here and there and maybe a song now and again, i use it basically for social networking more than anything, and YES SORRY for everyone who thinks im a ass, but like im broke as shit getting out of the marine corps loading missles and rockets doesnt translate well into any civilian job at all, im a stocker at a store and i barely have enough food to put on the table at the end of the day let alone pay rent.
