I'm currently using ZenOK Free Antivirus for a while of months now, nice and easy on the resources + lots of updates
AVG is a great anti virus...i use it every day !
I read earlier in this post about not using Antivirus - going el-natural so to speak.
If you are going to go that route you might want to check out the Linux firewall called untangle
Search for that in Google and you will find the untangle.com website.
Anyway - Click on Products - and then Pricing - and go to the bottom and there is a free open source version.
I have seen this firewall in action and it works great.
It can stop a lot of virus stuff before it gets to your PC and stop the bad guys at the front door:
Includes: Spam Blocker, Spyware Blocker, Web Filter Lite, OpenVPN, Protocol Control, Phish Blocker, Intrusion Prevention, Attack Blocker, Virus Blocker, Routing & QoS, Reports, Firewall
Its pretty slick. .. . You can setup spare pc with it or perhaps build a micro pc to handle it. . . .
I think we will need anti-virus & anti-malware for portable devices such as smartphones, tablets as as they get more apps. on them! So, is Lookout the only best mobile security app. out there?

Yes, they are more careful about it now. I guess, I'm just a bit paranoia about it!

Well if you do get a virus due to their practices, and it affects you financially, I am fairly confident there would be a class action lawsuit. The moment they decided your could not be trusted with your phone, and they had the manage your applications was the moment they took ownership of all problems on your phone.

What got me started was the RFID which is not secured yet they are using it anyway. Wireless communications can be intercepted in the air, doesn't make you feel better.

I know a lot about RFID, but there is little if not information about the security used in credit cards and debit card RFID tags. Passports are apparently not encrypted which is a little worrying. But unless someone bumps you, they won't be able to read the tag, I'm not even sure if that is possible, it might be near contact for communication.

For the past several years Avira comes out as the best free solution, and G-Data is the best non-free solution.
