Configuring WinMx 3.31
:sw Hi all!
I am a new user on WinMx. Not a newbie on the P2P side, but I have a lot of trouble configuring the bitrate settings as well as the bandwith.
I got a little document from a user on WinMx, which stated this:
For High Speed connections
Click on bandwidth button.
Set download bandwidth to 10000000 bytes per second
Set upload bandwidth to 50000000 bytes per second
Ensure ticks are in the boxes.
Then set your throttle cycle to 50m/s, this should be good if you have a good PC with big memory, if not or you have problems reset it back to 250m/s
Throttle controls how much of the computers resources it will use. If you want to do something else while using WinMx, then set your throttle higher and if you are going to leave
it over night then set it lower.
Use the settings and watch your speed increase dramaticaly especially if the other user has set them the same.
I have gone from an average of 4.5k/s to 30k/s using these settings when other users have them also.
I have tried this, but this doesn't work.
Also, I have set my max downloads to 100, but I can't seem to download more than 3 or 4 items at the time.
My Auto Enter Que is on 1, my Auto Find Sources is on 1.
Help me.
My down- and upload speed doesn't exel to more than 1kb/s
I am running a Windows XP system, 600 Mhz, 40 GB harddisc, 320 MB RAM with a cable connection.
Suggestions are welcome.

I've read that from somewhere. Is that from a WinMX tips list that is disguised as a wsx list?
Anyway, I recommend that you don't set your upload speed to the maximum of your total, but to like 80%. This is because TCP uses error verification, so if you totally max out your upload, then it will also slow your download.
I use this freeware program to monitor my bandwidth:
netpersec
If, for example, you find your total upload bandwidth is 14 KB a second, that would translate in WinMX to 14000 bytes per second in your settings, and then you could try limiting the total upload in your WinMX settings to around 12000.
The text you posted also mentions the bandwidth throttle. The default is 250 ms. I have mine set at 500 ms. I don't see any benefit of having it a lower number, except that the speed that you set your upload would probably be more steady. I have my max upload bytes set to 8500 per second, and on the 500 ms setting, I see the speeds fluctuate between 8000 and 9000.

Change these also:
1: From the Search Window: Change Auto Find Sources 15 to 10
2: From the Search Window: Change Enter Auto Queue 10 to 100
3: From Settings/Bandwidth Throttle: Change BW Graph to 15
Dial Up Users:
4: Settings/Bandwidth Throttle Check Box Limit Outgoing Bandwidth to 3000
5: Settings/Queuing: Max Total Uploads 2
Broadband Users:
6: Change to Secondary Connection, if you have problems with connecting.
