    Noise

K, recently I've been leaving the computer up all the time (2 weeks straight without a shutdown!!!) but one thing thats really bothering me is that I have the computer in my room so whenever I go to bed I can hear the fan and HDD making noises. I find it really annoying because I can't get to sleep. I've noticed it only seems to be my computer that makes this much noise too. I know computer fans make noise, but it shouldn't be allowed to be this much. Whenever I go to the library and use those computers I never hear this much noise, and when I'm using my friends computers, they dont make as much noise as mine. Is there anyway I can make my computer quiter? My specs are:

    256 MB of RAM
    800 Mhz Celeron Processor
    40GB Fujitsu HDD
    Windows XP Home Edition

If it helps any I'm running a HP Pavilion XT919

    Hey there,

Today I bought tower case, to move my P4 system in to. I bought 2 very quiet Enermax fans to go on the back to exhaust heat.

When you say your drives are making noise, is this because you are downloading to \ from them?

If your drives are in use, then theres not much you can do except defrag them. If they are not in use, you can use Power management to make them stop spinning when not in use.

Also, use compressed air to rid your internal fans of dust, this will reduce noise and heat in your system.

    So:
    Get quiet fans
    Clean your fans
use APM to power down your drives.

I think thats the best and affordable way to go first.

    cheers

btw . . I know someone is going to mention sound dampening and achoustical tile, I offered affordable solutions
