Will Ninja Turtles Remakes Trash the Past? (Underwire)

Nickelodeon purchased another piece of Gen-Y’s nostalgia when it snapped up worldwide rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for a cool $60 million.

In addition to a potentially lucrative merchandising deal announced Wednesday, the cable network has designs on revamping the beloved ’80s series as a CGI cartoon and is negotiating with partner Paramount Pictures to produce a feature film. Both dubious endeavors are slated to descend upon the public in 2012.

Considering a climate where no cherished childhood memory is safe from molestation, our heroes in a half-shell seem destined for turtle soup. Can the reputation of Nickelodeon, one of TV’s most revered children’s networks, assuage anxiety in these creativity-bankrupt times? Will these famous ninja mutants go the way of The Cat in the Hat, Mike Myers’ crass defilement of a beloved Dr. Seuss character? Will the teen turtles suffer the adrenal overload of a Michael Bay-style Transformers re-interpretation, complete with April bent over a motorcycle a la Megan Fox? Or perhaps a shallow popcorn feature, in the vein of the recent G.I. Joe movie, is in their future.

It’s been a rough quarter century for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who have been subjected to countless humiliations since stepping from the pages of the original comic book. Product tie-ins, Pizza Hut-sponsored musical stage shows and multiple live-action movies have all scarred shells.

Because heaven forbid Holleywood would desecrate the movie business by hiring a screen writer.

I feel sad, it's like Ghostbusters 3 or the A-Team Remake
When I get excited with these things it is because I am staring at them through nostalgic glasses and the kid in me thinks AWESOME!!!!!

Then you blink and you end up with the GI Joe live action movie and it taints the memories

even better is the Street fighter movies or my favourite Bob Hoskins Fail Super Mario Bros

Wait...They already release a Ninja Turtles CGI movie 2 years ago. WTF? HERE
I just looked it up. What is this story all about? The 2007 movie got mediocre reviews. Here is a fact from IMDB source: It was the #1 film in the U.S. on its opening weekend, bringing in $25.45 million.

Some WIRED news hound needs to watch some movies before he becomes a Hollywood reporter. This in inexcusable! I shall fire off an E-Mail to wired and then buy a plane ticket to go kick them in the balls for being retarded. They got it coming... or am I missing something???

I guess they are just making another one Mels. This one is by Nickelodeon, where I don't think the two-year-old one is.
Here's Britney Spears' private jet... The gulf stream 3 doesn't even have a remote control for its surround sound DVD system. Still think downloading music for free isn't a big deal?

The way they posted the story they make it seem like the Turtles have been gone since the 80's/early 90's when that is so untrue. They have hung around for years and have already went CGI so in reality there is no story other than Nick movies taking over. WOW! The writer has mis-informed the public
