    buy a new hard drive

    format it to fat32

    reinstall windows

    reinstall all your other stuff

there is no other way (well you don't necessarily need a new hdd, you could format the one you have)

If you have an NTFS O/S, like XP, and you are currently a fat32 system, you can use a command line to convert up to NTFS. You may NOT however do the reverse, or even go back.

To convert a FAT partition to NTFS, perform the following steps.

Click Start, click Programs, and then click Command Prompt.

At the command prompt, type CONVERT [driveletter]: /FS:NTFS.
Convert.exe will attempt to convert the partition to NTFS.

*note, there is a space in that command line after the colon.

what's the difference? i've had total failures with both

ntfs has some options that no home user could possibly need--encrypting filesystem, quota options

    why bother using it?

this is all true of course, but do you think that "average" users give a crap about any of that?

Most of us are not average users...

If you do any gaming, file sharing, FTP, or programing; I think you shouldn't be classified as an average user anymore.

I think the retards who stay one AOL all day and chat would be more of the average user.

Also the average user wouldn't know what the hell Fat32 or NTFS is in the first place.

I agree with both notbob and Krell on this one.

Is NTSF all that much faster? I'm running Win Xp Home on FAT32...(WD 120 GB 8mb cache) If i convert, will my performance increase noticably or not?
